Ontario Data Shows Massive Increase In Euthanasia Deaths, As Canadian Gov’t Pushes To Expand MAiD

The Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario releases Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) data on a monthly basis. The 2021 euthanasia data indicates that there were 3,102 assisted deaths up from 2,378 in 2020, representing a more than 30% increase.

The December 2021 data showed a significant increase of 59% with 298 reported euthanasia deaths. To give you a comparison there were 188 reported Ontario euthanasia deaths in December 2020.

On July 1 last year, I published data from Health Canada’s 2020 annual report on (MAiD) euthanasia and assisted suicide.

It was predicted that Bill C-7, which passed in March 2021, would lead to a 20% increase in the number of assisted deaths. Recent Ontario data indicates that this prediction was an underestimate, as there were 3,102 assisted deaths in 2021 up from 2,378 in 2020. The jump in assisted deaths represents more than a 30% increase.

A further analysis indicates that the growth in killing by lethal injection is actually worse. According to the data, in the first half of 2021 there were 1,363 assisted deaths, up from 1,127 in the first half of 2020 or a 21% increase, but in the second half of 2021 there were 1,739 assisted deaths up from 1,251 in the second half of 2020, which is a 39% increase.

The 2020 Canadian euthanasia report indicated that the number of reported assisted deaths increased by 34% in 2020 to 7,595 up from 5,660 in 2019 which was up more than 26% from 4,478 in 2018. Euthanasia deaths represented 2.5% of all Canadian deaths in 2020.

While the federal government has not released the data for the entire country, based on the Ontario data I predict that there were almost 10,000 Canadian euthanasia deaths in 2021, and further estimate there have been approximately 31,000 euthanasia deaths in Canada since its legalization to December 31, 2021.

Some would suggest that this indicates that the killing program is successful, but rather I suggest that Canada normalizing killing our healthcare system is abandoning Canadians to death.

Note: There have been 9,796 euthanasia deaths and 2 assisted suicide deaths in Ontario since legalization in June 2016.

Looking at the trend. The number of cumulative reported assisted deaths in Ontario (since legalization):

  • Dec 31, 2018 – 2,529 (30 months),
  • June 30, 2019 – 3,303 (up 774 in 6 months),
  • Dec 31, 2019 – 4,318 (up 1,015 in 6 months),
  • June 30, 2020 – 5,445 (up 1,127 in 6 months),
  • Dec 31, 2020 – 6,696 (up 1,251 in 6 months),
  • June 30, 2021 – 8,059 (up 1,363 in 6 months),
  • Dec 31, 2021 – 9,798 (up 1,739 in 6 months)

Is there enough killing yet?

Both Canada’s federal government and the Québec government established committees to discuss the further expansion of euthanasia in Canada. These committees are considering euthanasia for incompetent people who requested death in their advanced directive, along with euthanasia for children as well as the rules to implement euthanasia for people with mental illness.

The Québec report supported euthanasia for incompetent people but not for mental illness, but Bill C-7 has already approved euthanasia for mental illness in Canada.

The current Canadian government remains committed to more euthanasia.

Last November news emerged showing that funeral homes in the Canadian Province of Ontario have begun offering Euthanasia rooms.

Paul Needham in London, Ontario, told the CBC that he receive so many calls to provide a place in his funeral chapel for people to be killed by MAiD, that he simply could not miss the opportunity.

According to an annual report, Medical Assistance in Dying or “MAiD” was used to end the lives of 7,595 Canadians in 2020 alone, including 1,412 who felt “isolated and lonely.”

Canada is one of a very small number of countries that have legalized the practice of euthanasia. According to statistics from the NetherlandsBelgiumLuxembourgAustralia, and the United States, Canada has the highest rate of medically assisted deaths in the world.

The Netherlands, which has the second-highest rate, still had 657 fewer citizens killed by euthanasia versus Canada in 2020.

It is also worth noting that Canadian Government statistics show 4,000 (non-medically assisted) suicides per year in the country. Meaning, that “MAiD” has increased suicides in Canada by nearly 200%.

Despite these alarming numbers, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau stated in 2019 that expanding euthanasia by making the law “less restrictive” was one of his top priorities.

In March of 2021, Bill C-7 received “Royal Assent” (meaning it passed both Canadian Houses of Parliament). The amendments to the bill expanded those eligible for assisted suicide by including those not terminally ill. It also waved the ten-day waiting period for those who are terminally ill and permitted doctors and nurses to lethally inject a person incapable of consenting if they were previously approved for “MAiD.”

Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, stated that the changes to Bill C-7 make Canada the “most permissive nation concerning euthanasia.”

RECOMMENDED: Is Euthanasia a Biblical Solution to Terminal Illness or Suffering?

Ken Ham, Founder and CEO of Answers In Genesis, recently wrote that the “culture of death” we are witnessing today is a consequence of rejecting God.

“The religion of death permeates our world,” Ham said. “Of course, when people are encouraged to kill humans in the womb, then why not out of the womb? And where does it stop? What if governments decide certain people are detrimental to the culture because of their beliefs or certain physical attributes?”

“Oh, that has happened in history and is happening today in places!” he explained. “It’s a consequence of people who reject God and become their own god. As God states in His Word: ‘all who hate me love death’ (Proverbs 8:36).”

THANKS TO YOUR PRAYER AND SUPPORT

Do Conservative Americans Crave The Temporary Societal And Political Blessings More Than We Crave Jesus?

Especially during the country’s 250th anniversary year, many Christians have fervently prayed for this nation. I, too, am burdened by the sin rotting America from within. I have loved ones who need to be saved. I see churches struggling to survive. I see Christians who aren’t walking closely with the Lord like they once did. I see neighborhoods destroyed by sin. Add to that the sheer insanity and unbridled brokenness filling this nation because its citizens are pursuing their own lusts. Oh, what a burden it is to ponder these realities! It is right to take them to God in prayer. I do, and will continue to pray over these things. However, I’m concerned that some Christians might be praying with the wrong motivation.

‘Treated As Disposable’: Same-Sex Couple Sues Surrogate Who Refused To Abort Baby With Minor Birth Defect

According to the lawsuit, the “intended fathers” demanded the termination at 22 weeks’ gestation. When the surrogate mother pushed back, the relationship collapsed. The same-sex couple is now accusing the surrogate of failing to keep them informed about the baby’s health, putting the child at risk, causing emotional distress, and violating confidentiality—all of which the birth mother has denied. As this legal battle unfolds in Canada, it spawns a number of ethical questions regarding the commodification of human life in an era of advancing reproductive technologies.

Called Out From The Culture: The Hope For America Is The Church

I believe that the hope for America is the church—God working through his church. Christians need to live up to their name. As Christ followers, we need to be Christlike. And if the church would be what it was meant to be, then it would change our nation. But let’s localize it. If your church would be what it ought to be, it could change your city. It could change your county, and it could change your state. Let’s localize it even more. If you would be what you ought to be as a follower of Jesus Christ and as a part of the church, then what a difference it could make in your church.
