HGTV’s ‘House Hunters’ Celebrates Polyamory

HGTV entered into a whole new realm of social progressivism when it featured a polyamorous family on the popular series “House Hunters” on Feb. 12.

The episode, titled “Three’s Not a Crowd in Colorado Springs,” followed Brian, Lori and Geli as they searched to find a house to accommodate their lifestyle.

The self-professed “throuple” recounted how their relationship began.

“Lori and I got married in 2012,” said Brian, adding that they have two children, ages 10 and 13.

“We evolved to a point where we were comfortable having another woman in our lives.”

Brian and Lori—whom Brian says in bisexual—met Geli in a bar, and the three “fell in love.” The trio began a relationship and eventually had a “commitment ceremony” in Aruba with their children in attendance.

“Until recently, polyamory had a different name: adultery. Not anymore!” said Michael Brown, host of the syndicated “Line of Fire” radio program and president of the FIRE School of Ministry in Concord, North Carolina. “… Polyamory is now as American as apple pie.”

While liberal progressives lauded the G-rated show as “groundbreaking,” Biblically-minded Christians were not shocked.

“The normalization of polyamory rolls down the track, just as I and others predicted it would,” Robert P. George, professor of jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions at Princeton University, posted on Twitter. “It was, as I said, less a ‘slippery slope’ than a simple unfolding of the logic of social liberalism.”

Rhyne Putman, associate professor of theology and culture at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, agreed.

“Years ago, when we were in the early stages of debate over same-sex marriage, we said any arbitrary redefinition of marriage would lead to further redefinition,” Putman told Christian Headlines. “We warned that changing the definition of marriage to a consensual relationship between two people of the same sex would eventually open the door for more than two people in a marriage.

“At the time, we were told bringing this subject up was slippery-slope logic – an absurd extreme,” added Putman, who also serves as pastor of First Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana. “Yet today, nearly five years after the [Supreme Court’s] Obergefell decision, major media outlets tell us that polyamorous ‘representation matters.’ The dominoes were eventually going to fall this way once the sexual revolution gave them a push.”

Scripture says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24, ESV).

But Biblical illiteracy and unbiblical indoctrination through liberal media and pop culture have led to the increasing deterioration of God-honoring relationships.

“Only a radical spiritual awakening, leading to a radical social awakening, will stem the tide,” warned Brown.

God did not provide His Word so that it would simply die in the hands of the spiritually dead. He expected, as evidenced by Habakkuk, that it be shared – particularly that which was warning people of the two paths available – righteousness or wickedness.
