The first draft for the next major update to smartphone emojis could include a “pregnant man” as well as a gender-neutral “pregnant person.”
Emojipedia announced the potential inclusion of non-female pregnant emojis as “consistent gender options for pregnancy.”
“Pregnant Man and Pregnant Person are new, and recognize that pregnancy is possible for some transgender men and non-binary people. These are additions to the existing Pregnant Woman emoji,” the outlet explained.
If approved, the draft’s changes “will mean that nearly all emojis can have default a gender neutral option, with choice to use a woman or man where relevant.”
“A few exceptions remain, which are being reviewed, as per this Unicode Emoji Subcommittee report from 2020,” they explain.
A final draft of the Emoji 14.0 update, which includes things like a melting face, a slide, an evil eye, a tire, and a number of shaking hands of varying skin colors will be approved in September 2021.
HD Editor’s Note: Why Is This News Biblically Relevant?
For those who may think that it is farfetched these emojis will be approved, take a moment to remember what emojis were introduced in 2020: A mustached man in a wedding dress, a woman in a tuxedo, a gender-neutral Santa, and the pink-and-blue transgender flag were all approved and introduced to users.
At the time, Ken Ham wrote an article stating:
These new emoji designs are just another sign of the times we live in today as our culture moves away from the Judeo-Christian ethic founded in God’s Word. God’s design for gender—male and female—has been abandoned and is even mocked and scorned. In its place is the new gender revolution that says men can be women, women can be men.
But this goes against God’s clear design (Genesis 1:27). He created us male and female—distinct and different. And, of course, the science of genetics confirms there are only two genders, so believing in many genders is both anti-biblical and anti-science.
Many of you have children and teenagers with smartphones or social media apps using emojis and will see these new emojis as they are rolled out over the coming weeks. I encourage you to use it as a teaching point to shine a light on biblical truth.
There’s no such thing as a “gender-neutral” person; we’re either male or female. Men are not to dress as women or women as men. And the transgender flag is a symbol of the sin of pride—arrogance and defiance against the Creator, who made us male and female. We should have compassion for those who struggle with gender dysphoria, but they don’t need us to join in on their rebellion against God’s design. They need us to speak the truth with love and gentleness—we are male and female.
