Just days after grocery giant Kroger told The Washington Stand that the abortion drug mifepristone was listed on their Health Savings Club pharmacy website due to an “error” and removed the listing, wholesale giant Sam’s Club has likewise stated that it too erroneously listed the abortion pill on its pharmacy website due to an error committed by a “third-party vendor.”

On Wednesday, Live Action News reported that Sam’s Club’s previous online listing of the abortion drug was removed, with a spokesperson telling the outlet, “We use a third-party vendor to aggregate medication pricing, and their tool provided incorrect information.” On Thursday, TWS reached out to Sam’s Club to verify the information and asked whether the nation’s second-largest wholesaler anticipated offering mifepristone in the future. We received an identical one-sentence statement in response.

Since the Biden administration loosened restrictions on the abortion drug in January 2023, Democratic lawmakers and officials have heavily lobbied nationwide pharmacy chains to carry the chemical abortion pill, including Walmart (owner of Sam’s Club), Costco, Safeway, Kroger, HealthMart, Albertsons, and McKesson. As of this writing, however, CVS and Walgreens are the only nationwide chains that widely dispense the drug, with Rite Aid selling it in a limited number of stores.

Mifepristone is an anti-progesterone drug that blocks the critical growth hormone from reaching the unborn child, which causes the baby to starve to death. For women, the documented health dangers that result from the two-pill chemical abortion regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol are extensive. The FDA has warned that up to 7% of women who undergo chemical abortions will need surgery “to stop bleeding” or to complete the abortion. With the latest numbers showing that almost two-thirds of the over one million abortions that were carried out in 2023 were done via the drug, an estimated 45,000 women will likely require emergency surgery per year as a result.

In addition, incomplete data from the FDA shows that 26 women have died after taking the abortion drug from 2000 to 2021. The highly publicized deaths of Amber Thurman and Candi Miller both occurred a year later in 2022 as a result of ingesting the abortion pill regimen.

Mary Szoch, director of the Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, welcomed Sam’s Club’s clarification regarding mifepristone.

“Both Sam’s Club and Kroger have corrected the third-party vendor error that listed them as selling a drug meant to starve unborn babies to death! Thank goodness pro-life journalists like those at Live Action News and The Washington Stand brought this horrific error to the attention of leadership at both Sam’s and Kroger — and praise God for their quick work to correct the mistake!” she shared with TWS.

“Grocery stores shouldn’t be responsible for starving anyone to death — especially not the most vulnerable among us, the unborn,” Szoch continued. “I hope both companies take the appropriate steps to ensure that no third-party vendor ever has the ability to use their grocery stores to promote the culture of death again.”

“Abortion supporters try to make it sound more acceptable and less barbaric by saying that it ‘terminates a pregnancy,’” Graham described. “But medication abortions, as they are called, are just another way to deliberately end the life of an unborn child—and that should be called what it is—murder.”

“Pray that the minds and hearts of people across our nation would be awakened to the great sin and heartbreak of abortion,” he implored.
