As Democrat-run states work to force taxpayers to fund the killing of unborn human life, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, the Governor of Arkansas and former White House Press Secretary, signed a bill last week setting aside $2 million in taxpayer funds to aid pro-life pregnancy centers in the state.
The $2 million grant was set aside for non-profit organizations that seek to “provide a range of services to individuals facing an unintended pregnancy with the intention of encouraging pregnant women to give birth to their unborn children,” the bill specifies.
The Family Council, a Christian group that seeks to promote traditional family values in Arkansas by advising the legislature, worked with the Budget Committee in the state to secure the funding, which it has done since 2022.
“Pro-lifers in Arkansas have worked hard to prohibit abortion,” the group highlighted. “We need to work to make abortion irrelevant and unthinkable as well. Supporting pregnancy resource centers is one way we can do that. We want to recognize the Arkansas Legislature for proposing and passing this good law, and we want to thank the governor for signing it.”
Stark Contrast
The Arkansas pro-life bill comes in stark contrast to another bill signed this week by Colorado Governor Jared Polis.
While the title of Colorado Senate Bill 25-183 vaguely claims to provide taxpayer coverage for “Pregnancy-Related Services,” the law itself is strictly related to ending the lives of unborn children, repealing “the state constitutional amendment prohibiting the use of public funds to pay for abortions.”
The Family Research Council (FRC) highlighted the impact the bill will have on babies, created in the image of God, as well as conscience protections.
“With the stroke of a pen, Polis weaponized Amendment 79, transforming a political agenda into a crushing taxpayer burden,” they wrote. “Mere weeks ago, thousands of Colorado pro-lifers encircled the state capitol, fiercely defending the sanctity of life. Yet, Polis — dismissing their convictions — claims this fulfills the ‘will of voters to strengthen access to reproductive care.’ Now, pro-lifers’ own tax dollars are being funneled to fund abortions, the very procedure they passionately oppose.”
Sanders’ Stand For Life
A year following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, Governor Huckabee Sanders recognized January 22, in perpetuity, as “the Day of Tears” in her state to remember the millions of innocent lives ended, including over 237,000 in Arkansas, by the Supreme Court decision on January 22, 1973, which made abortion the law of the land.
Later that year, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a bill to create a “Monument to the Unborn,” which, once complete, will be displayed on Arkansas’ Capitol grounds. The monument will include a plaque with text from Psalm 139, a chapter from the Bible which declares God’s recognition, protection, and wonderful design of human life in the womb: “For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well” (Psalm 139:13-14).
“Arkansas is one of the most pro-life states in the country,” Huckabee stated in a fiery interview with CBS in 2024. “I’m unapologetically pro-life, I believe that we are a culture that protects life, that values life. I think that’s who we are as a country. And I’ll continue to support those measures.”
“We’ll continue to push for things that I think protect all innocent human life… We are looking at every aspect and making sure that we’re doing what we can to protect and value life at every stage here in the state of Arkansas.”
Huckabee has emphasized that her leadership “will always defend the God-given right to life for the most vulnerable among us.”
