For years, artificial intelligence developers have discussed AI’s advancement with theatrical end-of-the-world predictions. Branding the technology as “apocalyptic,” they paint a vivid picture akin to Hollywood-crafted nightmares: machines overcoming mankind, leading to the eradication of the human race.
Earlier this month, a 27-year-old Anthropic and OpenAI researcher abruptly announced his resignation, insisting that these AI companies are “gambling with our lives.”
“The people building AI earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade,” he wrote in his public resignation. “This is not a marketing stunt. If anything, many executives and senior researchers will couch their phrasing in the press to sound sensible – but I hear the same people express fear privately. No other human activity poses this level of danger.”
Evan Hubinger, who also works for Anthropic, passionately agreed: “Jacob is correct here — we really do earnestly believe AI could kill all humans! I personally think it is >10% within the next decade.”
John Johnson, CEO of the AI infrastructure company Patmos, disturbingly referred to Artificial intelligence as “a god in a box,” telling Fox & Friends that Americans “have a right to be worried.”
The increase in AI developers calling for the implementation of guardrails on the technology was met with bewilderment by President Donald Trump this week.
“When, in the History of Business, did anyone see the Leaders of an Industry call for Regulation that, if strongly implemented, will drive them into oblivion and bankruptcy?” he wrote in a Truth Social post.
President Trump firmly stated that America cannot afford to fall behind in the development of artificial intelligence, allowing nations like China to bypass the United States in progress. To that end, the President announced the creation of an “AI Force” on Saturday to help accelerate the technology’s progress.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” he stated. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!… AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25% of our Country’s GDP. We are leading China, and the rest of the World, and I intend to keep it that way!”
“AI taking over the World, destroying Humanity, and all other things bad, is a HOAX,” he underscored, likening the claims to the repeated false predictions of impending doom made by climate alarmists.
The president is correct in some important aspects. Will mankind be obliterated in an “AI apocalypse”? The Bible provides a straightforward answer: absolutely not.
In fact, lest any “experts” beguile you in the future, God’s Word assures us that there will never be an extinction of humanity—period.
As correct as the President is about the erroneous proclamations of an “AI apocalypse”—and the substantial power that would come with America winning the “AI race”—he falls short in his own predictions by turning a deliberate blind eye to the technology’s very real dangers.
At its current stage of development, AI has crossed very real ethical boundaries. It has never been so easy to disseminate lies, concoct fake images, publish false news stories, manipulate public perception of important—even religious—subjects, and much more. Add in obvious surveillance capabilities and how the technology is being ingrained into banking, military, and other vital systems, and you have a sure recipe for an alarming level of power.
It is no wonder why the President is actively pursuing an upper hand in this sphere over China and other countries—but that doesn’t mean it is safe in any nation’s grip of control.
This danger is very Biblically founded.
The Bible speaks of a time when a man, who is referred to as the beast or the “antichrist,” will rise onto the world scene and accumulate unprecedented power and control across the entire globe. He will step into the forefront at the beginning of the seven-year tribulation, and by three and a half years in, he will control all buying and selling, subjugating the world under his all-encompassing authority.
Revelation 13:15-17 reads, “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”
For thousands of years, Christians have read this passage with astonishment, trying to picture how such vast control could be accomplished. Today, many Bible prophecy experts have pointed to the emergence of artificial intelligence as an all but inevitable component in managing and making possible the antichrist’s regime.
As Jan Markell, Founder and President of Olive Tree Ministries, examined: “How will AI play into the Antichrist’s agenda? Will this manage all buying and selling? We’re all aware of the Biblical prophecy found in Daniel 12:4 that knowledge will increase in the last days. In 1948, there was a milestone event as it concerns ‘signs of the times.’ That was the re-birth of Israel 78 years ago. Are we in the generation of a more current sign that could involve end-time technology, the ‘image of the beast,’ ‘mark of the beast,’ etc? Could this wave of technology be as relevant as the stirring of the dry bones? We look at that 1948 happening in a rear-view mirror. Technology is a 21st-century fulfillment.”
The “AI race” will continue. Christians need to understand where this technology is—and isn’t—heading, with Biblical discernment.
