Justin Trudeau Revokes Emergencies Act

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Wednesday that his government would be revoking his implementation of the Emergencies Act.

“The situation is no longer an emergency. Therefore, the federal government will be ending the use of the Emergencies Act,” said Trudeau.

“We are confident that existing laws and by-laws will be sufficient to keep people safe.”

Trudeau argued that giving his government sweeping powers was “the responsible and necessary thing to do,” in response to the freedom convoy.

A joint committee of parliamentarians will now review the government’s decision to declare a national emergency within 60 days, as required by the legislation.

Trudeau’s revocation of the Emergencies Act comes days after the House of Commons approved the use of the unprecedented law – thanks to the parliamentary support of Jaghmeet Singh and the New Democratic Party.

The Trudeau government invoked the act on Feb. 14, immediately granting itself unprecedented powers. The government needed to seek approval from the House of Commons within seven days in order to extend its use for at least another four weeks, or whenever it chose to discontinue its use of the legislation.

The House of Commons’s passage of the act was currently being debated in the Senate of Canada.

Since the act was invoked last Monday, supporters of the Freedom Convoy have had their bank accounts frozen, while police in Ottawa brutally cracked down on protesters over the weekend. All border blockades, including those in B.C., Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario, had already been cleared before or shortly after Feb. 14.

Trudeau is the first Prime Minister in Canadian history to invoke the Emergencies Act since it was created as a successor to the War Measures Act in 1988.

Brian Peckford, who is that last living signatory of Canada’s constitution that Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, called the use of the Emergency Act “completely and absolutely unnecessary.”

“The kind of action that the government of Canada is taking, killing a fly with a sledgehammer, this is completely and absolutely unnecessary,” he stated in a press conference last week, when the Emergencies Act was enacted. “I, as a citizen and a person who was involved in the creation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, must take issue with what I anticipate to be an action against the people of the country through the Emergencies Act.”

“We are at a very historic moment in our history to see this act being invoked for the first time against peaceful demonstration and civil disobedience,” he had underscored. “This is completely unnecessary to apply to the truckers and we will over the next days and weeks actively argue against any such measure.”

Late last month, Peckford, along with 5 other applicants, filed a lawsuit against the federal governments over the constitutionality of vaccine mandates restricting travel.

Peckford, in an interview with Professor Jordan B. Peterson, explained that the acknowledgment of God’s sovereignty is forefront in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

“What Everybody ignores is this, that the Charter doesn’t begin with section one,” he explained. “It begins with a tiny preamble of one sentence: ‘Whereas Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law’”

“After that sentence, it’s not a period. It’s not a semicolon or a comma. There’s a colon which says everything follows after this,” he underscored. “That’s another area where the courts and their governments are falling down on the job is that they’re supposed to consider everything in the Charter in light of two principles: the supremacy of God and the rule of law. Somehow that which is a key part of opening the constitution, the introduction of the constitution, has been missing.”

One of the most unpopular beliefs among Christians today is that of the pre-Tribulation Rapture. Many not only scoff at our expectation of meeting Jesus in the air, but also ridicule those of us who believe it could happen at any moment.
