The historic partnership between the United States and Israel during Operation Epic Fury has been a sight to see. Analysts are describing the blitz against the Iranian regime as “one of the most coordinated Allied operations in modern warfare.”
The deep friendship Israel holds with the Trump administration has been a game-changer in the Middle East, one that stands in sharp contrast to others that came before.
In 2015, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stood before the US Congress and the United Nations, delivering impassioned speeches to oppose the Obama administration’s nuclear deal with Iran, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Despite what its name suggested, the deal was in no way a “plan of action” against Iran’s nuclear ambitions, rather it provided sanctions relief in exchange for what amounted to a pinky promise by the regime to stop its pursuit.
Netanyahu was clear that the agreement would only strengthen Iran and its proxies, warning that the regime could not be treated like any other rational nation due to its all-consuming desire to inflict global terror and annihilate the nation of Israel.
Netanyahu has been proven correct, but his urgent caution fell on deaf ears until the first term of the Trump Administration, which promptly withdrew from the JCPOA and imposed heavy sanctions on Iran. The Jewish State had a friend in the White House who recognized the danger of the Ayatollahs, but it wouldn’t last long.
The following administration under Joe Biden recinded the Trump-era sanctions, offering only lip service against the actions of the regime in Tehran. Within a few years, Israel would face the well-funded terror proxies of Iran in the form of the most brutal massacre of Jews since the Holocaust on October 7th, 2023.
The Jewish State stood alone as it faced a multifront war, with an Iran inching closer and closer toward its goals of becoming a nuclear power standing at the center. Netanyahu’s words in 2015 before the UN and Congress had materialized, and yet the Biden Administration continued to pressure Israel not to take decisive action against the Islamic Regime.
The re-election of Donald Trump meant that there was again an administration in office not blinded by anti-Israel ideology—one that logically recognized the threat and was willing to act alongside its ally. With each offer of diplomacy slapped away by the Iranian regime, military action proved to be the only option against an Islamic ideology hell-bent on the eradication of Israel and Judeo-Christian Civilization. This reality would be further proven in the months to follow, when even the military action by the United States and Israel during the 12 Day War was not enough to bring the demonically-driven regime to the negotiating table.
More than necessary, the current war with Iran is long overdue. Democrat administrations were not only unwilling to take action, they had a direct hand in creating the crisis. And yet, it is obvious that no lesson has been learned. Had there not been a Republican majority in the Senate, the Democrats would have succeeded a few short days ago in passing a resolution to limit the President’s authority to continue the military operation.
Elections have an enormous impact.
During the last Presidential election, one of the main focuses of numerous Christian voters surrounded the nation of Israel. Pastors who sounded the alarm about the dangers of a possible Harris administration recognized that America’s friendship with Israel was not simply a “political issue,” it was a profoundly Biblical one.
While vocal critics treat cooperation between the United States and Israel as not being “America first,” through Scripture, we know that the exact opposite is true. Those who cling to the authority of God’s Word know that Israel’s survival is not in question—that it is a promise given by the Lord Himself. However, Scripture, in no uncertain terms, states that nations will be judged by their treatment of Israel (Genesis 12:3, Zech. 12:3, Joel 3:1-2, etc.).
While blessing the Jewish State results in a nation being blessed, anti-Israel administrations in the White House place the United States at odds with God. Those are the stakes of each election, and they showcase why Christian involvement in “political issues,” especially concerning Israel, is so essential.
