Three Toronto Synagogues Targeted By Gunfire In Less Than A Week: ‘Action Is Needed Now – No More Words’

(Regina, Saskatchewan) — As the world watches the US and Israel destroy the demonic Iranian regime, in Toronto, Canada, three synagogues were hit by gunfire within the span of a single week.

World Israel News reported:

Two synagogues in the Toronto area were struck by gunfire overnight, marking the third shooting targeting a Jewish house of worship in the region in less than a week.

Beth Avraham Yoseph of Toronto in Thornhill and Shaarei Shomayim in North York were both hit shortly after midnight. No injuries were reported, but the back-to-back attacks sent another shock wave through a community already rattled by the earlier shooting at Temple Emanu-El in North York.

In Thornhill, York Regional Police say officers responded near Clark Avenue and York Hill Boulevard around 11:49 p.m. and found evidence of gunfire directed at the building. Police said two people were inside at the time and were unharmed, and investigators believe a dark sedan pulled up and opened fire.

Minutes later, Toronto police were called to Shaarei Shomayim near Bathurst Street and Glencairn Avenue, where bullet holes were visible on the front doors. Authorities have not said the two shootings are connected.

The latest attacks came only days after Temple Emanu-El was hit following a Purim gathering. In that case, Toronto police said officers found multiple shell casings and gunfire damage at the entrance, and brought in the Hate Crime Unit along with the Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force.

Police also said 22 antisemitic occurrences have been reported in Toronto so far this year, representing roughly 63 percent of all reported hate-crime occurrences in the city.

Of course, Prime Minister Mark Carney condemned the attacks, but B’nai B’rith says words are not enough.

“Terror is in our Canadian streets,” the group underscored. “Jews are being attacked in their neighbourhoods with insufficient responses from all levels of government and enforcement agencies. Action is needed now – no more words, no more finger pointing, no more excuses. We demand clarity. We demand that our government draw the line now, and action the initiatives that are long overdue. Anything else would serve to demonstrate that the recent attacks on our businesses and institutions will in fact be tolerated in our society. And we will not allow this to happen.”

“These recent attacks did not occur in a vacuum; they are a product of the permissive environment that has been fostered on our streets,” B’nai B’rith further stressed. “We are now witnessing the consequences of allowing hate and division to become normalized, something we have warned against day after day. This must end immediately.”

I wholeheartedly agree. It is time for Canada’s leaders to wake up. Canada is better than this, and its leaders need to stop taking a soft stance on antisemitism.

Imagine for a moment if the antisemitic rallies happening in the streets were aimed at the elimination of the LGBT community? Undoubtedly, people would be arrested almost immediately and charged with hate crimes! Yet, when the call is for the elimination of Israel, somehow it’s tolerated.

Allowing this kind of language—“From The River To The Sea”—to flourish only fuels the spread of antisemitism. The results can be seen through increasing attacks on synagogues and the Jewish community. Canada has got to wake up and confront this immediately.

The recent attacks on synagogues in Toronto remind us of a sobering truth when we look to God’s Word. The Bible reminds us that when leaders fail to act, the people will suffer. Proverbs 29:2 reads, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.”

Taking no action, in and of itself, is an evil action by our leaders, especially in light of God’s promise in Genesis 12:3, where He promises to bless those who bless the Jewish people and curse those who curse them.

It is imperative that Canadian leaders take decisive action to confront and stop this evil hatred targeting Jewish communities. If they do not, according to God’s word, judgment will come upon the nation, and as a result, as Proverbs 29 warns, the people will then indeed “groan.” Yes, the whole country will be groaning from God’s judgment if we do not do something to stop this vile and demonic antisemitism from flourishing.

The bottom line is that we need to be in prayer. We need to be in prayer for Canadian leaders to finally take a strong stand against this evil. We need to be praying for the safety of our Jewish friends here and around the world. Antisemitism has become out of control, and the Jewish community in Canada has been deeply affected, especially since October 7.

As we see the targeting of synagogues, it’s only going to be a matter of time—if we do nothing—that somebody or many are going to die. It should be the mission of every Christian to stand, love, and support Israel and the Jewish people. We must confront antisemitism until our very last breath.

Tingley, who has counseled adults and minors for more than 20 years, challenged a 2018 state law that bars counselors from encouraging and helping minors reject same-sex attraction or gender confusion. That same law permits counselors to encourage gender transitions. Those who violate the law could face suspension from their practice and loss of their license, as well as fines of up to $5,000 per violation. Tingley argued that the law violated the First Amendment because it requires counselors to promote only state-approved ideologies on homosexuality and transgenderism.
