UK Labour Party Leader Apologizes for Visiting Church That Believes Marriage is Between a Man, a Woman

Sir. Keir Starmer, leader of the U.K.’s Labour Party, was forced to apologize for visiting a church on Good Friday that critics have attacked as being โ€œanti-LGBTโ€ for adhering to biblical sexual ethics.

In a since-deleted video, Starmer praised Jesus House for All the Nations on Friday as being a “wonderful example” of a church serving its community during the coronavirus pandemic, including acting as a vaccination center and running a food bank.

โ€œI recently visited @JesusHouseUK to hear about their crucial work in the community,โ€ Starmer announced in a tweet that has also been deleted. โ€œChurches across the country have played such a vital role in the fight against the virus. I hope everyone has a good, restful and safe Easter weekend.โ€

The London-based church has long been attacked by LGBT activist groups, and some journalists, for refusing to kowtow to secular views on homosexuality, same-sex marriage and sexual orientation.

Following backlash from LGBT activists and Labour Party members who identify as LGBT or allies, Starmer said he regretted his decision to visit the church.

On Monday, Starmer said he accepted critics’ assertions that his visit to the church was a “mistake” and stressed that he was “not aware” of the church’s views on sexuality.

Starmer issued an apology on Twitter, saying: โ€œI completely disagree with Jesus Houseโ€™s beliefs on LGBT+ rights, which I was not aware of before my visit. I apologize for the hurt my visit caused and have taken down the video. It was a mistake and I accept that.โ€

In 2006, The church’s Senior Pastor, Agu Irukwu, joined over 250 clergy in signing a letter expressing their concerns with the then-Labour Party’s “Equality Act (Sexual Orientation Regulations),” which they deemed as โ€œChristianophobia.โ€

The letter, published inย The Telegraphย at the time, said in part:

“We write as pastors on behalf of tens of thousands of black British Christians. Many members of our congregations in London left their home countries to come to England to experience the freedom of living according to their Christian beliefs in a Christian democratic country. … The regulations force Christians in churches, businesses, charities and informal associations to accept and even promote the idea that homosexuality is equal to heterosexuality.”

Starmerโ€™s apology came after The Labour Campaign for LGBT+ Rights published a statement describing Jesus House as โ€œa church well known for its connections to conversion therapy, and more broadly anti-LGBT+ views.โ€ The group noted that Starmer characterized Jesus House as a โ€œwonderful example of a church serving their communityโ€ and slammed his visit to the church as โ€œunacceptable.โ€

The Labour Campaign for LGBT+ Rights maintained that โ€œas a bare minimum [Starmer’s] video should be deleted, and a public apology (should be) made by the Leader of the Opposition himself.โ€ They added, โ€œWe all still believe that the surest way to achieve LGBT+ equality is through the Labour Party, but the events of the last few days have set that cause back.โ€

Following Starmerโ€™s apology, the group thanked the Labour Party leader for deleting the video and apologizing for visiting the church: โ€œWe are pleased that you have recognized this mistake. …”

While Starmerโ€™s apology drew praise from LGBT activist groups, he received criticism from those on the other side of the aisle. Brendan Oโ€™Neill, the publisher of Spiked, wrote an op-ed for the Spectator titled โ€œStarmer Was Wrong to Say Sorry for Visiting Jesus House.โ€

According to Oโ€™Neill, โ€œThe Christians at Jesus House are guilty of nothing more than holding traditional Christian beliefs.โ€ He suggested that a headline from The Guardian titled โ€œKeir Starmer criticized over visit to church where pastor opposed same-sex marriageโ€ might as well read โ€œStarmer criticized for visiting a Christian church that adheres to Christian doctrine.โ€

โ€œIn apologizing for visiting Christians who hold biblical beliefs about homosexuality Starmer has insulted vast numbers of people. It is he who has behaved in an intolerant way, because he has essentially said that he will not associate with any religious group that doesnโ€™t agree with his views on same-sex issues.โ€ย

HD Editor’s Note: Why Is This News Biblically Relevant?

Ken Ham took to Facebook following the Labour Party Leaders apology, explaining that this news in the UK demonstrates that the LGBT movement is not about “freedom”:

“As I’ve said many times, secularists/LGBT movement don’t just want freedom for their worldview but total acceptance by all (including Christians) or persecution and elimination will result,” the founder of Answers In Genesis wrote.

Inย 2 Timothy 3:12, we are told that in the last days, persecution would come upon all who โ€œlive godly in Christ.โ€ In other words, those who live by the Biblical and godly standards outlined in Godโ€™s word, which run contrary to the world. It would be the refusal to give up Biblical morality that would cause Christians to be hated/persecuted.

This same chapter also explains that others would be โ€œdespisers of those that are good,โ€ people who โ€œresist the truth,โ€ and be โ€œreprobate concerning the faith.โ€

The Bible tells us that the world in the last days would be like it was in โ€œthe days of Lotโ€ (Luke 17:28). In Lotโ€™s day, God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, chiefly for the sexual immorality and homosexuality that the cities were given over to (Genesis 19Jude 1:7).

In Romans chapter one, Paul warns against the sin of homosexuality and, more specifically, the celebration of it as a rebellion against God.

It is this reprobate mind that our society has fallen into, not in the celebration of sins alone (such as homosexuality, abortion, etc.) but also the forced celebration which disregards and violates religious freedom and freedom of conscience.

As Biblical Christianity Weakens In The West, More People Turn To The Occult To Fill The Gap

As biblical Christianity weakens in America and the West, more people turn to occult practices to fill the gap. People naturally want to worship. If they reject the true God, they often look for spiritual answers somewhere else. This is why we see more interest in astrology, tarot cards, witchcraft, spirit guides, meditation, New Age ideas, manifestation, and the paranormal. Surprisingly, studies show that many people who say they are Christians now take part in practices the Bible clearly forbids.

Prophetic Pieces: As Putin Ups The Ante In The Arms Race, Russia Considers Providing Refuge To Top Iranian Leaders

Prophetic events in the end times right now are casting their shadows over the Middle East like never before. Preparations for the Gog Magog coalition prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39 are increasing and intensifying. Written 2,500 years ago by Ezekiel, these chapters prophesy an end-time invasion of Israel led by the nations of Russia, Iran, and Turkey. Two significant developments showcase that the prophetic pieces are falling perfectly into place.
