Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Monday his intention to resign once the Liberal Party of Canada selects a new leader as his replacement.
The news of Trudeau’s downfall comes as welcome news to the majority of Canadians. After he resigns, the Prime Minister will leave behind a legacy of trampled freedoms, financial burdens, corruption, and deadly agendas.
The move follows the resignation of Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Chrystia Freeland, in December. As True North highlighted, Trudeau’s decision came at a time when a “non-confidence” vote appeared inevitable.
“Calls for [Trudeau’s] resignation have been mounting for weeks from within his own caucus,” TNC reported. “Pledges from opposition leaders made his government unlikely to survive a non-confidence vote once the House of Commons returned later this month.”
Trudeau’s time as Prime Minister of Canada has been costly to Canadians in more ways than one.
Muslim Immigration And Antisemitism
The massive influx of immigrants from Muslim countries has changed the landscape of the major cities in Canada. Millions of Muslim immigrants under Justin Trudeau were welcomed into a country whose population stands at a mere 40 million (approximately). This surge not only created increased crime and housing costs but also brought with it a sharp rise in antisemitism.
Numerous pro-Hamas rallies have been held in the country, with the majority of attendees being Arab Muslims. Antisemitism and brazen support for Islamic terrorism have been key fixtures of these demonstrations. In November, one such event was set up as a vigil for Yahya Sinwarโthe now-deceased mass murderer who was the leader of Hamas and mastermind behind the brutal October 7th massacre of 1,200 Israelis.
In Canada’s most populated province, Ontario, a survey recently found that one-third of Jewish doctors have strongly considered leaving the country as a result of antisemitism. Toronto police also stated that nearly half of all hate crimes in their city are antisemitic in nature.
Additionally, over 82% of Canadian Jews as a whole express concerns for their safety in Canada post-Oct. 7th. Those concerns of Jewish Canadians are far from unwarranted. The Jerusalem Post noted that “125 Jewish institutions received bomb threats” between October 2023 and August 2024 in Canada.
One Jewish individual, referred to by the Jerusalem Post only as “Adam” for his protection, told the paper: “Walking around Vancouver, you would think that we live next door to the Gaza Strip. Pro-Hamas protests and bomb threats to Jewish institutions make me feel uncomfortable disclosing I am Jewish and for my own safety.”
Since October 7th, the war in Israel against Iranian terror proxies has been used as an excuse by many for open Jew hatred. This alarming trend, however, didn’t stop the Prime Minister from fanning the flames through his pointedly anti-Israel actions.
Following the International Criminal Court’s decision to issue an arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trudeau stated in a press conference that he would happily comply with Netanyahu’s arrest should the Israeli leader step foot on Canadian soil. In his explanation as to why he would take such a stance against the Jewish State, Trudeau insisted, “This is just who we are as Canadians.”
The following day, a large antisemitic riot broke out in Montreal. Trudeau, who responded to the news after attending a Taylor Swift concert, condemned the riot, but for many Canadians, it was too little, too late.
Michal Cotler-Wunsh, an Israeli special envoy for combating antisemitism, rebuked the Prime Minister, warning, “You can’t fuel antisemitismโthen condemn it.”
Conservative opposition leader Pierre Poilievre had similar criticism, writing to Trudeau, “You act surprised. We are reaping what you sowed.”
“You send out your MPs to say one thing in a mosque and the opposite in a synagogue,” Poilievre charged. “While you were dancing, Montreal was burning. We won’t let you divide us anymore… We will fire you and reclaim our citizenship, our values, our lives, our freedom and, most of all, our country.”
In Genesis 12:3, we read that God’s hand of blessing or cursingโon individuals or countriesโis predicated on their treatment of His chosen people and nation: Israel and the Jews. Trudeau has placed Canada on the wrong side of this Genesis 12:3 ledger for nearly ten years.
Deadly Consequences
In his campaign for Prime Minister, Trudeau vowed he would legalize and expand euthanasia in Canada. Unfortunately, he made good on that promise. Since 2016, when Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) became legalized, over 60,000 Canadians have been killed through the euthanasia program.
According to a recent report, in 2023 alone, over 15,000 lives were ended by physician-assisted suicide, an almost 16% increase from the year prior.
The numbers emerging from Canada have been so horrific that opponents of euthanasia’s legalization across the globe have used the country as a case study for the ramifications of allowing the practice.
In an interview on Tony Perkins‘ Washington Watch, West Virginia State Delegate Pat McGeehan blasted Canada’s MAiD program, calling it “a fancy way of saying they’re killing their own citizens.”
Last October, leading pro-life groups in the United Kingdom urged parliament not to legalize euthanasia, providing stories from Canada as evidence of the slippery slope of permitting assisted suicide. Legal advocacy group Christian Concern, in a statement, cautioned UK MPs: “Initially, only those whose death was ‘reasonably foreseeable’ were eligible, but following legal cases and campaigning, MAiD has been extended even to those suffering solely from mental illness. MAiD now accounts for over 4% of deaths in the country and is the fifth leading cause of death.”
MAiD has been heavily criticized for pressuring the ill and disabled to take part in assisted suicide, with many vulnerable individuals reporting that they were offered euthanasia repeatedly and made to feel like they were burdens on their family members and their society. Sadly, these pressure tactics are often successful.
When Justin Trudeau took office, the suicide rate in Canada was approximately 4,000 individuals per year. Now, factoring in the legalization of assisted suicide, over 19,000 have made the decision to prematurely end their lives in a single year (amounting to a 350% increase).
Attacks On Christians
Canada has become a perilous place for Jewish people, those suffering from illness, and Bible-believing Christians. Under Justin Trudeau, pastors were arrested, Christian services were shut down and threatened, and over one hundred churches were torched with little condemnation.
Holding to a sound Biblical worldview was also directly targeted by the federal government in parliament.
In January 2022, a “conversion therapy ban” became law, which amended the criminal code to outlaw the teaching of Biblical truth as it related to sexual morality. God’s design for marriage between one man and one woman was referred to in the law as a “myth.” The Sunday after it came into effect, over 4,000 churches in Canada and the United States banded together to teach on Biblical sexuality in defiance of the lawโwhich many Canadian churches have continued to take part in annually.
It was also recently revealed that the financial committee recommended revoking tax-exempt charity status to any organization considered “anti-abortion.” Furthermore, the recommendations called for redefining what qualifies as a charity, calling for the exclusion of organizations whose stated purpose is the “advancement of religion.”
Trampling on Freedom
The increasing distrust in Trudeau was showcased following his handling of COVID-19, resulting in thousands protesting against his government through the “Freedom Convoy” in 2022โa movement against government overreach that soon spread globally.
The Liberal government’s heavy-handed response to the “Freedom Convoy” rallies, which included the jailing of its organizers, violent force by police, and seizure of donations, was condemned on the international stage.
Trudeau received an unfriendly welcome when visiting the European Parliament that same year, with MEPs calling him a “disgrace to democracy” for trampling on fundamental values with his “quasi-liberal boot.”
“To you, these may be liberal methods, for many citizens of the world, it is a dictatorship of the worst kind,” stated Croatian MEP Mislav Kolakusic.
Belgium MEP Christine Anderson was also displeased with Trudeau’s presence, remarking, “A prime minister who openly admires the Chinese basic dictatorship, who tramples on fundamental rights by persecuting and criminalizing his own citizens as terrorists just because they dared to stand up to his perverted concept of democracy should not be allowed to speak in this house at all.”
Canada Needs To Make A U-Turn
After nearly ten years of globalist-centered ideology leading Canada, it is high time to say goodbye to Justin Trudeau. Certainly, volumes could be written on the damaging impact of his leadership. His “climate tax” alone financially devastated millions of Canadians already burdened by high taxes, heightened housing costs, and the out-of-control price of food.
The Liberal Party will soon be tasked to select a new individual to lead until the next election. That new short-term Liberal Prime Minister will undoubtedly be no better.
Canada as a nation needs to make a U-turn in the upcoming election. That begins with remembering the first sentence of the Canadian Charter Of Rights And Freedoms, which opens with an acknowledgment of Almighty God: “Canada is founded upon principles that recognize the supremacy of God and the rule of law: …”
Whether you are Canadian, American, or otherwise, as Christians, now is the time to pray for Canada.
Pray for the church in Canada to take seriously its responsibility to vote with a Biblical worldview. Pray for the freedoms of Christians to be protected. Pray that Canada will once again be an ally to Israel and the Jewish People. Pray for an end to the globalist and anti-God agendas destroying this once freedom-protecting democracy. Pray for the care and not killing of the most vulnerable. Pray that Canada will repent and again acknowledge the necessity of God in the government, in the courts, in the classrooms, and in the hearts of individuals.
