Senator Slams Biden SCOTUS Pick For ‘Alarming’ Record Of Letting Child Porn Offenders ‘Off The Hook’

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) has warned against President Joe Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, pro-abortion Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, highlighting her “alarming pattern” of “ letting child porn offenders off the hook for their appalling crimes.”

In a lengthy Twitter thread late Wednesday, Senator Hawley presented the findings from his investigation of Judge Jackson, nominated to the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) by Biden on February 25.

Referencing Jackson’s past record as outlined in her “opinions, articles, interviews & speeches,” Hawley presented evidence of what he described as an “alarming pattern when it comes to Judge Jackson’s treatment of sex offenders, especially those preying on children.” This was consistent through her time on the federal bench, as well as while a member of the U.S. Sentencing Commission, noted Hawley.

“Judge Jackson has a pattern of letting child porn offenders off the hook for their appalling crimes, both as a judge and as a policymaker,” wrote the Senator. “She’s been advocating for it since law school. This goes beyond ‘soft on crime.’ I’m concerned that this a record that endangers our children.”

Examining her record as far back as during law school, Hawley highlighted Jackson opposed making “convicts register as sex offenders — saying it leads to ‘stigmatization and ostracism.’” Jackson, 51, is currently a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia.

But the Missouri senator also critiqued Jackson’s time serving on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, saying she had “advocated for drastic change in how the law treats sex offenders by eliminating the existing mandatory minimum sentences for child porn.”

He highlighted how Jackson has a consistent record of seeking to downplay the weight of crimes around possession of child pornography, including her suggestion that individuals who posses such images might do so for the sake of “the collection,” rather than for nefarious purposes. Hawley shared a screenshot of the official transcript, in which Jackson asked: “So the people who are in this for either the collection, or the people who are loners and find status in their participation in the community, but would be categorized as nonsexually motivated, how many are we talking about?”

Such a view, Hawley suggested, was behind Jackson’s 2012 belief that “there may be a type of ‘less-serious child pornography offender’ whose motivation is not sexual but ‘is the challenge, or to use the technology.’”

“In her time on the U.S. Sentencing Commission, Judge Jackson said she ‘mistakingly assumed that child pornography offenders are pedophiles’ and she wanted ‘to understand this category of nonpedophiles who obtain child pornography,’” observed Hawley.

Her record as a judge is “troubling,” continued the 42-year-old lawmaker, noting that “[i]n every single child porn case for which we can find records, Judge Jackson deviated from the federal sentencing guidelines in favor of child porn offenders.”

In many of the specific instances which Hawley presented, Jackson merely gave the lowest legal sentencing limit, which was often a number of years shorter than the recommended sentence. One such case, United States v. Cooper, Jackson handed the lower possible sentence of 60 months to a criminal who had over 600 images and videos of child porn, and had posted many on them publicly online. “The Guidelines called for a sentence of 151–188 months,” noted Hawley.

Sen. Hawley met with Jackson March 9, as part of her build-up to her confirmation hearings, which will begin March 21. Hawley posted online afterwards that he had quizzed the judge at length, “especially about her defense of Guantanamo Bay terrorists & on criminal justice.”

“The hearings will be critical to understanding why she has taken these position,” Hawley added.

However, in the days since their meeting, Hawley’s further research into Jackson’s record now led him to describe it as “disturbing,” particularly that she is “nominated to the highest court in the land.”

“Protecting the most vulnerable shouldn’t be up for debate,” he said. “Sending child predators to jail shouldn’t be controversial.”

He also decried the “stonewalling” from the Sentencing Commission, which has so far “refused” to hand over Jackson’s full record for her nomination confirmation hearings.

Hawley was supported in his warning about Jackson by Republican candidate for governor of Nevada, Joey Gilbert, who wrote: “This judge is not getting in on our supreme court. Let’s make sure this does not happen.”

Prior to Biden’s nomination of Judge Jackson, Hawley warnedDemocrats that if Biden continued “to tear apart this country w/ a woke activist” as a nominee, then he should “expect a major battle in the Senate.”

Jackson has been described by pro-life advocates as being radically pro-abortion, saying that her record on abortion “is so extreme that horrifying late-term abortions will again be in the news.”

Kevin Roberts, President of the Heritage Foundation, responded to Biden’s nomination warning that liberals want the “far-left” judge to impose their “Political agenda” at the expense of American’s rights.

”There are few decisions more important for a president than the selection of a Supreme Court nominee. In this Biden has utterly failed, starting with his criteria for making this appointment,” he asserted. ”Judges should play a limited role in our government, yet Jackson’s far-left supporters want her to impose a political agenda that invents new rights or erases rights she doesn’t like. Based on the information we already know, senators should reject her for this lifetime appointment.”

Decision Magazine reporting on nominee’s radical record, further wrote:

The pro-life organization March for Life also opposed Biden’s nomination of Jackson for the U.S. Supreme Court based on her “record of judicial activism.”

“We expect her to be a reliable vote for the far left and the Biden administration’s radical abortion agenda,” the organization wrote.

In 2001, Jackson co-authored a “friend of the court” brief in the case of McGuire v. Reilly, in which she supported a Massachusetts law that created a floating “buffer zone” around pedestrians and cars approaching abortion clinics. Jackson’s clients included the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, the League of Women Voters, the Abortion Access Project of Massachusetts and NARAL Pro-Choice America. Later, NARAL and the pro-abortion National Women’s Law Center strongly supported her nomination to the D.C. Circuit.

Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List, said in a press release: “Joe Biden is fulfilling his promise to only appoint justices who support the Roe v. Wade regime of abortion on demand up to birth—a policy so extreme only a handful of countries in the world hold it, including North Korea and China. Ketanji Brown Jackson is backed by many of America’s most radical pro-abortion groups. She is on record opposing the free speech rights of pro-life advocates pleading to save lives outside abortion centers and supporting the false claim that abortion is ‘health care.’ We have no doubt she will work with the most pro-abortion administration in history to enshrine abortion on demand nationwide in the law.”

David Fiorazo, in a recent article, stated that while “even some Democrats think the country is not being managed properly,” if people continue voting for these far-left leaders and lawmakers, there will be “more chaos, division, godlessness, communist policy, Marxism and anti-American agendas.”

“I’ve said this so many times; forgive my being redundant,” Fioazo wrote. “At the risk of oversimplifying, this worldview war is about power, and it all comes down to three words: God or man.”

Christian writer, Jonathan Brentner, insists that what Biden is doing is a deliberate effort “to collapse America so that it will have no choice but to yield to the global powers that seek to form this new world order.”

Similarly, in her article, “Top Bible Prophecy Stories in 2021 – Harbingers Of His Return,” Jan Markell suggested that America is being purposefully declined in preparation for an approaching global government.

“Many reading this did not think we would be the generation to see the drastic decline of America as a world leader,” Markell explained. “I’m going to be blunt here and suggest that America is not coming back, but Jesus is. The world is now preparing for global government. The advancement is stunning and diabolical.”
