A school teacher in Lodi, California, has a small cross on the wall of her fourth-grade classroom. It hangs just above her diploma from San Diego State University.
A parent saw the cross and became so enraged that they contacted the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
“Any child in that classroom who does not follow a Christian-based religion has to look at that cross and know their teacher’s religion is different than their own,” the parent told FFRF. The parent expressed dismay over the fact that a child “may feel that [the teacher] disapproves of them or does not accept them or their own religious beliefs.” The parent was particularly concerned that their own child could be treated differently if the teacher learned that the child was not Christian.
The Freedom From Religion Foundation is an atheist group based in Wisconsin. The atheists fired off a letter to administrators at Erma B. Reese Elementary School. They said the teacher’s cross was a violation of the law – and that by posting the cross in the classroom she gave the signal that Christian students would be given special treatment.
“By prominently displaying a cross on her classroom wall where students will inevitably see it, [the teacher], and thus the district, signals clear favoritism toward religion over nonreligion and Christianity over all other faiths,” FFRF attorney Sammi Lawrence wrote to Superintendent Neil Young.
Long story short – the school district capitulated and ordered the teacher to remove the cross.
We live in a nation where many of our taxpayer-funded classrooms have been turned into LGBT playgrounds. Teachers have adorned the walls with rainbow flags and gender mutilation flags. As I wrote in my new book, “The Golden Age,” if a teacher can publicly profess their faith to the LGBT agenda, a teacher should be allowed to profess her faith in Jesus Christ.
