Snap Elections in Spain: Globalism vs. Patriots

It is no longer a mere rumor or a demand from the opposition. Spain has officially called for snap elections to be held this coming November 29.

In his official announcement — which began with gender-inclusive language — Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez defended the decision to call the vote as necessary. “To undertake the pending reforms we need in depth — so that citizens can succeed in reducing those levels of inequality — we must mobilize and ensure that Parliament grants us a much broader, progressive majority,” he said, inviting the public to “continue transforming Spain.”

Sánchez spoke of transformation during his address from the Moncloa Palace, the very place where he devised the current plan to regularize the status of over half a million undocumented immigrants in the country — many hailing from cultures antithetical to Western values. It is a move that, according to the patriotic party VOX, will bring about a “demographic, social, labor, and electoral transformation” without consulting the Spanish people.

In doing so, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) — Sánchez’s party — would secure a majority of supporters tethered to a rampant, welfare-state-driven statism, according to VOX leader Santiago Abascal: “He intends for the immigrants — regularized and naturalized at breakneck speed — to become his future voters.”

In his speech calling for the new elections, Sánchez made room for his ever-present globalist leanings. He stated that he and the PSOE have strived “to build a better world for our compatriots and also for the rest of humanity.” How? By “doubling” international cooperation aid or by supporting “the European Union and the United Nations during their darkest moments.”

At the latter organization’s New York headquarters, he appeared last month to have breakfast with Socialist Council Member and Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D) and to kiss the left-wing dictator Delcy Rodríguez on the cheek. What a marvelous trip!

Of course, Sánchez’s convenient amnesia must have been on duty during his speech at La Moncloa when he claimed to have spent his time “fighting tyrants” — but which ones? His friends in Cuba or those in Nicaragua? It is not clear to me.

Sánchez asserted, with the airy detachment of a psychopath, that he “has turned Spain into a global benchmark for peace, feminism, and prosperity.” Yet — to take things in order — his face appears on missiles launched by the Iranian tyranny toward Israel as a gesture of gratitude for his activism against the Jewish state; feminism has left the Iberian nation trailing at the bottom of Europe in fertility rates; and today, the country is seeing a simultaneous rise in the number of people working and the number of households requiring some form of public supplement or subsidy.

For the conclusion of his speech at La Moncloa, Sánchez resorted to what the Left does best: frightening citizens by painting the opposition as a monster. He called on voters to choose between joining “that far-right wave that causes regression wherever it governs” or having Spain “remain a bastion of openness, social justice, and environmental responsibility.”

Spain will indeed have to choose in late November, but the choice lies between the disintegration of the social fabric (amidst barriers to assimilation such as language and culture), a surge in rape cases, and massive migration shocks like the one that occurred in Ceuta.

Spaniards will have to decide whether to continue shouldering the burden of an elephantine bureaucracy — one that harbors fantasies of leading the globalist cause while punishing its most successful entrepreneurs with tax rates approaching 50%. Compounding the political storm expected next month are corruption allegations and investigations implicating Sánchez’s inner circle.

In an interview months ago with The Washington Stand, Madrid-based analyst Pedro Tarquis stated that the socialist prime minister’s hold on power was wavering.

“Some allegations touch upon high-ranking PSOE officials and the ‘Sanchismo’ movement. There is evidence — pending trial — of nepotism involving his brother and his wife, as well as an investigation into suspected irregular PSOE financing during his tenure — though, regarding the latter, there are currently only allegations from witnesses,” Tarquis explained.

Furthermore, he noted that the socialist leader’s administration has suffered erosion due to “governing amidst multiple public service failures,” such as the nationwide blackout that plunged all of Spain into darkness in April.

However, Tarquis highlighted a key factor for the opposition to consider regarding the November elections: “If Sánchez has demonstrated anything, it is his capacity to turn situations around and his immense ability to execute creative maneuvers that boost his image — even if artificially — so he cannot be counted out just yet.”

The Complete Downfall Of Iran’s ‘Death Cult’ Is The Only Way For Trump To Eradicate Tehran’s Existential Threat

In the wake of increasingly brash statements by Iran refusing to negotiate on nuclear enrichment and demanding full U.S. capitulation for further negotiations to end the war, experts say the Islamist regime will have to be entirely replaced to eradicate its existential threat toward Israel, the region, and the world. “[W]e’ve gotten used to this regime that for so many years now has called ‘[D]eath to America,’ ‘Death to Israel’ — 49 years of obsession, quite frankly,” Jonathan Hessen, a senior fellow at the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, observed during “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” Tuesday. “… [Iran’s leaders] don’t really know what they can do at a time when their economy is crippled. The United States has, through U.S. Central Command, brought about a hermetic blockade that has put the Iranian regime [in] the process of choking into submission. They don’t like the position they’re in, and they’re trying to find a way out of it.”
