Franklin Graham, Leaders Across America To Kick Off 50 Days Of Prayer For Our Nation On May 15

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12).

This year marks America’s 250th anniversary, and in honor of this momentous occasion, Franklin Graham is calling for 50 days of prayer, culminating on July Fourth.

“This is a critical moment in our history,” he said. “There is nothing more powerful that we can do for our country, our churches, and our families than to come together in prayer before God Almighty.”

Graham will kick off this national movement on May 15. For the following 50 days, church leaders from each state will lead a short prayer via video, asking God to move in our households, government, and society. Graham will conclude this special season of prayer, thanking God for how He has blessed the United States and seeking His mercy, direction, and provision as we celebrate our nation’s founding on the Fourth of July.

Together, let’s ask the Lord to work mightily in our country and draw many people to faith in Jesus Christ.

“I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” (1 Timothy 2:1–2).

A Nation Founded Upon God: The Battle For The Soul Of America Is A Battle Worth Fighting

Independence Day reminds us that God has been at the center of our nation since its founding in 1776. Thomas Jefferson once said, “God who gave us life gave us liberty.” But friends, without God, there is no liberty. Jesus said in John 8:36, “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” Freedom is a gift—both spiritual freedom from the bondage of sin, and religious freedom to worship the Lord and live fearlessly for Jesus in the public square. But if we are not careful, our nation may lose the very freedoms upon which our country was founded.

Ravenous Wolves: Is James Talarico The Worst ‘Christian’ Politician?

Scripture is clear that not everyone who claims to be in Christ is actually in Christ. There are many who profess Christ with their mouths, but their hearts are far from him. And how do we know? Because they don’t do what He says: "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14:15). These people will quote the Bible, claim they love God, attend church, and seem very winsome or charming on the outside, but inside they are ravenous wolves seeking to destroy the flock of God.

Thomas Jefferson’s ‘Separation Of Church And State’ Never Meant Keeping God Out Of Government

In context, it’s clear this wall of separation was not created to keep religion out of the State. It was simply intended to protect religious freedom and to place boundaries on the State’s control over the Church. In fact, the United States Capitol served as a church building for seven decades and Jefferson himself was a regular attendee. He attended so faithfully that he earned a reserved seat. On the Sunday after he wrote the letter to the Danbury Baptists, he attended church services at the still-under-construction Capitol.
