Iran is in a state of chaos. Economic turmoil, widespread drought, rolling blackouts, and living under the thumb of a terror-loving regime have stirred the people of Iran to take to the streets en masse.
Throughout Tehran’s war and proxy war with Israel, many analysts have highlighted the stark difference in views between Iran and its people. The increasing anti-regime sentiment has now come to a head, with the nation’s people calling for freedom and a return to the Iranian monarchy, which was overthrown during the 1979 Islamic revolution.
The Trump administration is vocally supporting the Iranian people, warning the regime that the United States is “locked and loaded,” ready to intervene “if Iran shoots and violently kills peaceful protesters.”
Despite the warning from President Trump, reports from the country indicate that the mass killing of protesters has already begun. While it has become exceedingly difficult for information to leave the country, with the regime imposing a complete internet blackout, the details that are emerging from Starlink users and other inside sources within the country are deeply troubling.
Iranian physicians have placed the estimate at over 217 protesters killed, though, as noted by JNS, those numbers only look at six hospitals within the Islamic nation. Arutz Sheva spotlighted a disturbing report from Iran International, which found that “even the most conservative estimates indicate that at least 2,000 people have been killed in the past 48 hours.”
As Christians, we should always examine world events with a Bible in hand. Through the lens of Scripture, we understand two critical insights that are unique to those with a Biblical worldview: Where we should stand on an issue and what God’s prophetic Word states will happen in the future.
Through these insights, let’s examine the chaotic developments in Iran.
1) Where should we stand?
The Iranian people are fed up with living in a brutal dictatorship, which prioritizes funding terrorism against Israel, plotting for the downfall of the United States, and enforcing freedom-crushing Islamic law. Many protesters are calling for the regime’s end and the re-establishment of imperial rule, led by exiled crown prince Reza Pahlaviโwho has openly showcased his friendship with both Israel and the United States.
Iran also has, what many believe to be, the fastest-growing underground church in the world. Needless to say, these individuals coming to faith in Jesus Christ are severely persecuted under the current Islamic regime.
Iran was once a thriving country, beloved by tourists, before the grip of radical Islam took hold in Tehran. The Iranian people are actively attempting to regain their freedom, a desire which should be supported and prayed for by Christians.
2) What does God’s prophetic Word state will happen in the future?
Will the freedom-loving people of Iran be successful in bringing down the regime? Students of Bible prophecy cannot give an infatic answer. The Bible does not explicitly tell us one way or the other.
The nation of Iran is spoken about in Bible prophecy, and these verses of Scripture show us what we can know with certainty. A future battle, often referred to as the War of Gog and Magog, is detailed in Ezekiel chapters 38-39. Iran is listed among a coalition of countries (including Russia and Turkey) that will attempt a large-scale invasion of the nation of Israel in the time prior to Jesus’ return. The attack by this coalition of invading armies, according to the prophet Ezekiel, will be met with utter defeat when God Himself intervenes in defense of Israel.
Will the current protests lead Iran to once again become a thriving ally to the nation of Israel? If Iran is going to once again befriend the Jewish State, we can say with assurity that the relationship will not last long.
In the not-too-distant future, the nation of Iran will play a key role in an attack to destroy the Jewish State, and that is all we can say with certainty as Biblically discerning and prudent observers of the events unfolding.
Knowing that Iran will be consumed with hatred for the nation of Israel during the Ezekiel 38-39 war, however, should not stop us from vocally and prayerfully supporting the Iranian people seeking freedom and an end to the heavy-handed Islamic dictatorship in Tehran.
As Erick Stakelbeck, host of the Watchman Newscast and Stakelbeck Tonight, rightly emphasized, the people of Iran “have been under the jackboot of the Ayatollasโthis modern-day Nazi death cultโfor 46 years.”
“Pray for the people of Iran,” Stakelbeck urged. “A poll showed that after the 12-day war, roughly 80% of the Iranian people detest this regime. The main victims of the Iranian regime are the Iranian people.”
“The Iranian people are a great people… Proverbs 29:2 says, ‘When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.’ That is what we are seeing right now in Iran,” he underscored. “People are dying and suffering, and the regime ruling over them is spending all their resources and time rebuilding more missiles so they can again attack Israel.”
“Itโs a demonic obsession,โ Stakelbeck noted, adding that the regime โultimately wonโt get away unscathed.”
