Franklin Graham Urges Prayer After Justice Thomas Hospitalized

News of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s hospitalization has prompted conservatives to offer prayers and support across social media

Thomas was taken to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., Friday, where he has been hospitalized for “flu-like symptoms,” according to a statement released by the Supreme Court Sunday night. Thomas is expected to be released in “a day or two.”

“He underwent tests, was diagnosed with an infection, and is being treated with intravenous antibiotics,” the court said. “His symptoms are abating, he is resting comfortably, and he expects to be released from the hospital in a day or two.”

Conservatives, including Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, took to social media to wish the justice well and ask that people join them in praying for Thomas.

Nick Adams, political commentator and author, pointed to the impact that Thomas’s absence from the bench could have.

Everyone please join me in praying for Justice Clarence Thomas. Now, more than ever, America needs this man at his strongest.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton tweeted, “Please be in prayer for Justice Clarence Thomas.”

Tennessee congressional candidate Robby Starbuck also offered his prayers, saying Thomas is a “legend.”

The Supreme Court said Thomas will still participate in cases for which he is not present by reviewing briefs, transcripts, and audio of oral arguments. The high court is expected to hear oral arguments in cases through Wednesday this week.

HD Editor’s Note: Why Is This News Biblically Relevant?

The importance of Justice Clarence Thomas’ role in the US Supreme Court should not be understated, especially in light of critical cases soon to be addressed by the court.

Many conservatives have commended Thomas for his uncompromising defense of the constitution and his open criticism of the Supreme Courts’ previous Roe v Wade decision, which has contrarily made him greatly despised by the political left.

“Despite the readily apparent illegitimacy of Roe, the Court has doggedly adhered to (it’s core holding) again and again, often to disastrous ends,” Thomas said last July, reiterating his belief that “Abortion precedents are grievously wrong and should be overruled.”

The Justice has also voiced his opposition to the Court Decision on Obergefell v. Hodges, which legalized same-sex marriage, writing a statement in 2020 alongside Justice Samuel Alito expressing his concerns.

Referencing Kim Davis’ petition to the Supreme Court at that time, Thomas said that it was “a stark reminder of the consequences of Obergefell.”

“By choosing to privilege a novel constitutional right over the religious liberty interests explicitly protected in the First Amendment, and by doing so undemocratically, the court has created a problem that only it can fix,” Thomas insisted. “Until then, Obergefell will continue to have ‘ruinous consequences for religious liberty.'”

“Obergefell enables courts and governments to brand religious adherents who believe that marriage is between one man and one woman as bigots, making their religious liberty concerns that much easier to dismiss. In other words, Obergefell was read to suggest that being a public official with traditional Christian values was legally tantamount to invidious discrimination toward homosexuals,” he warned. “This assessment flows directly from Obergefell’s language, which characterized such views as ‘disparag[ing]’ homosexuals and ‘diminish[ing] their personhood’ through ‘[d]ignitary wounds.'”

The decisions made by the highest court in the United States have grave implications, especially for Christians who have watched Biblical truth, morality, and freedom dwindle in society.

The Bible underscores the importance of having righteous judges. God’s Word states that the absence of good leaders and judges causes a breakdown of moral standards, which has the resulting consequence of every man turning to do “that which [is] right in his own eyes” (Judges 21:25).

Bible prophecy is given as a light shining in a dark place (2 Peter 1:19). Talking about it should not instill fear in the Christian; rather, provide confirmation that the “blessed hope” is ever nearer and the time ever shorter to snatch people from the fire.

‘Hour Of Decision’: Examining The Remarkable History Of The ‘National Day Of Prayer’

The rally was a historic event. Mr. Graham’s message marked the first time an evangelistic service had been conducted from the steps of the nation’s Capitol. But America’s Pastor was far more concerned with the significance. It was time to pray. It was time to get real with God.
