Israel Protests As UN Marks Partition Plan With Palestinian Solidarity Event

Israel on Monday protested that the United Nations chose to mark the 74th anniversary of the historic vote on the partition plan, which called for a Jewish state alongside an Arab one in the British Mandate of Palestine, by holding a Palestinian solidarity event.

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Gilad Erdan called the decision to hold an event in the General Assembly aimed at strengthening the Palestinian “right of return” on this day “outrageous.”

On November 29, 1947, the UN General Assembly voted to recognize the establishment of a Jewish state in parts of the Mandate. Jews jubilantly accepted the plan, while the Palestinians and neighboring Arab states rejected it and launched what would become Israel’s War of Independence.

“On November 29th, exactly 74 years ago, the UN recognized the Jewish people’s right to a state. The Jews and Israel accepted this partition plan and the Palestinians and the Arab countries rejected it and tried to destroy us,” said Erdan.

“The Palestinians and the Arab countries not only attacked Israel, the Jewish state, they also persecuted, massacred, and ultimately expelled the Jewish communities in their own countries,” he add, accusing the international community of ignoring those events and only focusing on the Palestinians.

“Instead, the UN has the audacity to hold a solidarity event for the Palestinians on the anniversary of the Palestinians’ own decision to choose violence. And on the day that the Palestinians chose violence, the UN also dares to advance…the outrageous, the false ‘demand of return,’ a demand that would lead to the total obliteration of the Jewish state,” he said.

A “right of return” is one of the key core issues of dispute in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The Palestinians claim that five million people — tens of thousands of original refugees from what is today’s Israel, and their millions of descendants — have a right to return to their ancestral lands.

Israel rejects the demand, saying that it represents a bid by the Palestinians to destroy Israel by weight of numbers. Israel’s population is almost nine million, some three-quarters of whom are Jewish. An influx of millions would mean Israel could no longer be a Jewish-majority state.

To highlight the issues, Israel’s mission to the UN launched a campaign on Monday together with the World Jewish Congress that will see trucks driving around New York with the message “Don’t erase Jewish history.”

Erdan particularly wants to highlight the plight of the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were expelled from Arab lands after the establishment of the State of Israel and their properties confiscated.

“By advancing and amplifying on the one side the false and dangerous narrative of the Palestinians and by silencing…the true…tragic stories of the Jewish refugees who were expelled from the Arab countries and from Iran, the UN is erasing Jewish history and distorting the truth and we will never allow this to happen,” Erdan said.

In a recent visit to Israel, Mike Pompeo further urged that the “future of our nations demands a more forceful assertion of the truth,” specifically addressing the antisemitic lie that Israel is an “occupier.”

“The future of our nations demands a more forceful assertion of the truth. In Israel’s case, it specifically involves confronting a false narrative. That is the very beating heart of modern antisemitism. That beating heart is the lie. It is the lie that the State of Israel is an illegal occupier in the land of Israel,” Pompeo explained. “The lie of occupation provides Israel’s enemies a means to explain away all types of aggression and violence as merely resistance to the occupation. Just listen to what they have to say in the public rhetoric.”

“Given the negative connotation of the term occupier, antisemitic groups around the world use the word as often as possible in their messaging, as they carry out acts of cultural, political, and economic warfare upon Israel and its supporters,” he asserted. “This then leads to the term’s casual repetition by the media and its eventual use by policymakers as well. This presents a real risk. It is clear then that promoting the common misrepresentation of the Jewish state of Israel as an occupier in the land of Israel has become the primary antisemitic canard of the present generation.”

The United Nations take every opportunity to unrighteously condemn the Jewish State of Israel. Despite Israel having one of the world’s best records on human rights, in 2020 the UN General Assembly condemned Israel a total of 17 times, as opposed to the 6 times for all other countries combined.

Back in May, following the 4,300 rockets fired toward Israel by Hamas and other Palestinian terrorist organizations, the United Nations Human Rights Council voted 24-9 in favor of an open ended investigation into Israel’s treatment of Palestinians. The move was stongly condemned by Israel, which called the move a “moral stain on the international community and the UN.”

In Genesis 12:3, God not only calls all the nations of the world to bless Israel, but He also presents a warning to those nations and people that choose to curse them: “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.”

Israel is extremely significant to Biblical Prophecy and has been often referred to as God’s prophetic timepiece. The last days’ timeline can be perfectly mapped through the observation of this country.

Since the nation of the Jewish people was miraculously reborn, just as God prophetically promised (Ezekiel 36-17, Isaiah 66:7-9Matt. 24:32-34), people have attempted to delegitimized and demonize them.

Zechariah speaks of a time when all the nations of the world will have their sights set on the land of Israel, more specifically, on its Eternal Capital, Jerusalem, which they would seek to divide (Zechariah 12).

Our world is setting the stage for the Tribulation, which is referred to in Jeremiah 30:7 as the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble.” In this time, Israel and the Jewish people will face unprecedented antisemitism, even far above that of the holocaust!

The anti-Israel bias and propaganda we are witnessing today is a harbinger of what is to come. It is increasingly vital that Christians work as a restraining force to this evil until we are “caught up” or Raptured by our Heavenly Father. We do this by standing with Israel and shining a light of Biblical truth in the midst of false information.

We are in a battle. At the core it’s spiritual and yet, it manifests throughout this natural, physical realm. We can see cultural fallout from this battle nearly everywhere. One blatant attack on the biblical worldview is the rejection of God as Creator.

One of the most unpopular beliefs among Christians today is that of the pre-Tribulation Rapture. Many not only scoff at our expectation of meeting Jesus in the air, but also ridicule those of us who believe it could happen at any moment.
