Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a number of airstrikes on Hamas targets in the predawn hours of Saturday morning after Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip fired at least 36 rockets at Israel in multiple overnight salvos.
The IDF said it successfully targeted rocket launchers and underground infrastructure belonging to the Gaza-based terror organization.
No casualties were reported following the IDF attacks, while many of the rockets launched into Israel were allowed to land in uninhabited terrain while six were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.
Palestinian militants initially fired three rockets on Friday night towards southern Israel, the military said.
But by the start of Saturday morning, that number climbed to nearly two dozens, marking the most aggressive assault launched from the coastal enclave in many months.
This new escalation in hostilities comes days after numerous clashes have broken out in Jerusalem and the West Bank involving Palestinian and Israeli civilians as well as Israeli security forces.
