100,000 Jews gathered for Selichot prayers at Western Wall

SOURCE: (Arutz Sheva)

Ezekiel 36:24, 37-38 KJV – โ€œFor I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land… I will increase them with men like a flock. As the holy flock, as the flock of Jerusalem in her solemn feasts; so shall the waste cities be filled with flocks of men: and they shall know that I am the Lord.โ€

Roughly 100,000 Jews gathered at the Western Wall in Jerusalem late Thursday night for special Selichot prayers ahead of the Yom Kippur holiday.

The mass Selichot prayer event was hosted by the two Chief Rabbis of Israel: Chief Sephardic Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef and Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi David Lau, along with the Chief Rabbi of the Western Wall Rabbi Shmuel Rabinovitch, the Mayor of Jerusalem Moshe Lion, Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan, and MK Gabi Ashkenazi, the chairman of the Knessetโ€™s Foreign Affairs Committee.

According to the Western Wall Heritage Foundation, an estimated one-and-a-half million people visited the Western Wall Plaza during the month of Elul, which precedes the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur holidays, and the ten days in between the Jewish new year and Jewish day of atonement.

โ€œThe great flood of people during the past month to the Western Wall Plaza during all hours of the day brought together people from all different groups and backgrounds โ€“ religious and non-religious, young and old โ€“ testifies to the deep ties all different groups in Israel have to the Western Wall and to Jewish tradition,โ€ the Western Wall Heritage Foundation said in a statement.

Rabbi Rabinovitch, the chief rabbi of the Western Wall, said it was โ€œtouching to see worshippers coming at all hours, day and night, and joining with tens of thousands of strangers, including people very different from themselves, and joining together to break down barriers. Thereโ€™s nothing more Jewish than that. The tribes of Israel were brought together, in a way that only the Western Wall can do.โ€

We Want Politicians Who Have A Biblical Worldview… But Politics Can Never Solve Our Most Significant Problem

The Bible tells us that our ultimate problem is a spiritual problemโ€”itโ€™s sin! Itโ€™s a heart issue. Weโ€™re all sinners in rebellion against God, and sin nature is ultimately at the root of all of our problems. Crime, immorality, corruption, greed, poverty, diseaseโ€”all of these exist because of our sin and the fallen state of creation. Because our ultimate problem is sin, politics will never ultimately solve our problems. Now, donโ€™t misunderstand me: politics matter, certainly, and we want politicians who have a biblical worldview and will make decisions based on the truths of Scripture. But even a โ€œbest-case scenarioโ€ with politics wonโ€™t ultimately save anyoneโ€”even if it makes a difference in this life.

There Is Only One ‘Preparedness Plan’ The Unbelieving World Should Be Focusing On: Getting Right With God

I'm sure you've seen all the headlines and the news alerts: โ€œBe prepared,โ€ โ€œAn emergency is coming,โ€ โ€œMake a plan.โ€ We are being told a global crisis is comingโ€”and not just one in your hometown. I've read two dozen doomsday scenarios where we are to stock up on food, medicine, have a strategy to meet up with family and friends if separated, and much more because something โ€œbigโ€ is coming. I have read the reportsโ€ฆ but I'm sounding an even bigger warning.

The Church Cannot Remain Silent On Biblical Matters Because They Have Been Declared ‘Political’

Jesus called His followers the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Neither image suggests withdrawal. Both describe engagement that makes a difference. So the issue is not whether the church should become political. It is whether Christians will remain biblical when biblical truth has political consequences. Our calling is neither to become the mouthpiece of a party nor to retreat into silence. It is to stand on Godโ€™s word, defend what is right, confront what is wrong, and speak with courage โ€” even when the culture would rather we remain silent.
