Assault On Religious Freedom: Quebec ‘Secularism Minister’ Applauds Bill Aiming To Stifle Public Prayer, Religious Speech

Quebec has introduced a controversial law that would severely restrict prayer and religious expression in public.

Bill 9, introduced on Nov. 27, “prohibits the use of public roads and public parks for the purposes of collective religious practices” without the authorization of local municipalities in the Canadian province.

Religious practice includes groups praying in parks, streets, public squares, universities and other public areas and institutions, Premier Christian News reports.

Jean-François Roberge, Quebec’s secularism minister, lauded the introduction, believing the bill would be a step toward full secularization in Quebec.

“Quebecers have advanced since 2019, which means it is necessary to strengthen our model of secularism,” he said.

When asked if children in schools would be barred from having Christmas or Hanukkah parties, Roberge said it depended on whether a party included “the transmission of faith or religious manifestations,” which would not be permitted.

“You can wish someone ‘Merry Christmas,’ you can sing a Christmas song that is simply a tradition, without making any reference in any way to the birth of baby Jesus, as they say,” he said.

Bill 9 builds on a 2019 law known as Bill 21. The law prohibits certain public sector workers from wearing anything with religious symbols, including crosses. Bill 9 expands on Bill 21 by prohibiting faculty employed in colleges, universities, daycares and private schools from wearing religious imagery, including religious private schools.

Any publicly funded places, including schools, hospitals and daycare centers, as well as private schools, cannot offer meals dedicated to those requiring religious exemptions, including kosher meals.

The bill will also financially affect private religious schools that teach religious content or accept students and staff based on their religion. Under the bill, public subsidies for these schools would be phased out over three years. There about 50 religious private schools in Quebec that would be affected.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) called the move “an assault on religious freedoms, equality, and basic human dignity,” claiming the restrictions disguise discrimination as secularism.

Bill 21 has been legally challenged, and the Canada Supreme Court will hear an appeal against the law in 2026.

Exposing A Culture That Has Renamed Evil As ‘Mercy’

What we discuss today should make you very upset. The Lindsay Clancy trial is not about whether or not a murderer is on trial. It’s a trial on “mental health,” something entirely different and completely divorced from reality. Let’s begin with an important fact: There aren't versions of the truth—”your truth” vs “my truth”—there is just the truth. Lindsay Clancy is responsible for the death of her children. End of story. Full stop. Videos across Social media are showing women holding plastic baby dolls, making light of casually harming their own children—moms tossing their fake babies over banisters, bashing their heads into doorposts, and putting them in dryers and dishwashers. The caption of one of the videos depicting the harming of infants reads: “postpartum depression got me like…”

Why Lasting Peace Is Out Of Reach: A Look At The Oslo Accords—And Why They Failed

The past often explains the present. This rings especially true in regards to the questions many have concerning Israel and the Palestinians. Where did the Palestinian Authority come from and when? How does Hamas feature in past attempts at peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians? What significance is attached to the areas of Gaza and the West Bank (Biblically known as Judea and Samaria)? To answer these questions and more, we need to examine a crucial period of negotiations for peace known as the Oslo Accords.

‘A Firm Reliance On The Protection Of Divine Providence’: Finding The Way Back As One Nation Under God

It is no secret that America has largely turned its back on God. Children are encouraged to find their own truth from a young age, and mentions of God in our public schools are brushed aside or removed. Church attendance is rapidly declining as self-help strategies promise the answers to life’s problems. We’ve traded Divine guidance for subjective truth—“it’s up to me decide what is right and wrong.” And even the concept of biological sex and gender is up to the preference of each individual. It is clear that secularism has infiltrated every aspect of society, and the results are catastrophic. The further we stray from God, the deeper we sink into hopelessness.
