MIDEAST REVIEW w/ Amir Tsarfati: Preparations For Escalation

Amir Tsarfati

Yesterday, in remarkable Abraham Accord news, Israel and Morocco signed a defense deal after normalizing ties between the two countries. Rumors are that it will even include the establishment of a joint air base in the Efsou area of northern Morocco.

Israel and its neighbor to the east, Jordan, have signed a historic energy and water agreement. According to reports, Jordan is to produce 600 megawatts of renewable energy for the Jewish State, while Israel is to provide 200 million cubic meters of water for Jordan.

Recognizing the signs of the times, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) is poised for a major military investment in preparation for an escalation of incidents with Lebanon and Syria. This is all tied to Iran’s influence in the area and the country’s support of Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations. As a sign of its increasing preparation, the IDF has scheduled 20 divisional exercises in the area for 2022, compared to 13 in 2021 and three in 2020.

At a conference at Reichman University in Herzliya, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz spelled out very clearly Iran’s involvement and agenda in promoting and supporting terrorist groups in the Middle East. Much of the nation’s ire is directed at Israel. At one point, the Iranian military even attempted to smuggle explosives to terrorists in the West Bank using drones. Israel shot the UAVs down. Their activity is particularly heavy in Iraq and Syria, and they are intent on keeping the entire region in turmoil.

Two incidents serve as proof of Iranian presence and activity amongst terrorists. First, on Tuesday Israel launched an airstrike on Iranian-backed Hezbollah targets south of Homs near the Lebanese border in Syria. Second, Bahrain announced on Monday that they stopped a terrorist attack, arresting the perpetrators who were in possession of weapons and explosives which originated in Iran.

Despite all that, Iran’s support of terrorism is still not the country’s worst kept secret. That title belongs to their continued quest for nuclear weapons. IAEA Director-General Rafael Grossi announced yesterday that despite his best efforts, Iran continues to spurn his requests for access to their nuclear sites. This breaking of the terms of the JCPOA surprises absolutely no one.

In another blow to an already struggling economy, Saudi Arabia has banned the importation of Lebanese produce due to drug smuggling. Rather than lashing out at the Saudis, Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry challenged its own country’s customs authorities to do better.

Five rockets were fired at the Kharab al-Jir military base used by US forces in the Hasaka Governate in northeastern Syria. All five rockets fell short of their target and there was no damage.

After 20 years, the UK has finally designated Hamas in its entirety as a terror organization. Before, it only recognized its military wing as terrorists. This move was followed up days later by an announcement from Australia’s Home Secretary Karen Andrews saying her country was bestowing the same designation on Hezbollah, banning any support of them from within their borders.

Last month, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok was placed under house arrest by a military coup. Now that same military has reinstated him under civilian and global pressure. Seen as a move purely to stabilize a very unstable situation, Hamdok will only remain in the position until new elections can be held.

Russia is preparing to attack Ukraine by late January, says Ukrainian Brig. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov. They have amassed over 92,000 troops and a great amount of military equipment along the border. Already they are carrying out psychological operations in the area seeking to cause destabilization and unrest. Budanov claims that US intelligence agrees with the timeline, although the Pentagon declined to comment.

Is Destructive Socialism In America’s Future? Not If We Reclaim Our Past

Last week, headlines were filled with reports of socialist candidates gaining ground in major American cities. Fifty years ago, that would have been almost unimaginable. Today, however, socialism is becoming an increasingly influential force within the Democratic Party. Is this America’s future? Perhaps we can find the answer by revisiting the course set by America’s Founders. In fact, it reaches back before the founding itself. In 1630, John Winthrop described the Massachusetts Bay Colony as “a city upon a hill.” He envisioned a people who understood they lived under a covenantal responsibility before God, a vision that profoundly shaped the character of the future nation.

The Real ‘American Dream’ Of George Washington Was Far More God-Honoring Than Many Have Been Led To Believe

Washington personally read the Bible and quoted the Bible. Those who deny America’s unique Christian roots will claim that many educated people in positions of prominence in the 18th century also quoted from the Bible. However, they also quoted from Greek and Roman authors of antiquity. Washington quoted almost exclusively from the Bible and applied its teachings to his personal life and role as a leader. The real American dream is far more God-honoring than what we have today. The true American patriot is working and praying that Washington’s vision for America will once again claim the hearts of Americans.

Will America Last Another 250 Years?

Looking back, there can be no denying that God has indeed shed His grace—His unmerited favor—on our land, from sea to shining sea. But does our national “soul” encourage self-control? Do our laws champion ordered liberty? Is our success tempered with nobleness? Is brotherhood the defining characteristic of any good we aspire to reflect? By all of those measures, America seems decidedly adrift. We are drifting farther and farther from Nature’s God—the Ruler of the Universe our Founders called upon and credited with for our celebrated independence.
