When I first began hearing about artificial intelligence (AI) years ago, I don’t think anyone could perceive its dangers. Clearly, it had end-time significance. Surely this would assist the Antichrist in his “buying and selling” scheme.
But God gives intelligence. How does mankind create it? And the honest question is, would it be a blessing or a Frankenstein? How about both?
There Have Been Ominous Warnings
A decade ago, I read the title to some articles that were stunning. One was, “Ex-Google Executive Anthony Levandowski is Founding a Church Where People Worship an Artificial Intelligence God.” Another story was headlined, “Why Humans Will Happily Follow an A.I. Robot Messiah.”
Microsoft founder Bill Gates says, “AI will either be the greatest equalizer ever invented, or the worst source of injustice. It could accelerate medical discoveries, help doctors diagnose, provide farmers in poorer countries with better agricultural advice, make government services easier to navigate, and give teachers tools to personalize education.”
Then he backtracks and says he doesn’t think the world is ready for it.
AI experts have made further warnings. I began assembling comments a decade ago. Here are just a few:
- The human era could be ending and machines will take over.
- He who develops AI rules the world. We won’t be able to control it.
- We are summoning up demons. Be very careful.
- We are playing with fire.
- AI could become smarter than humans and could become a god.
- AI could be the worst event in the history of civilization as machines could win.
The Warning That Went Around the World
In September of this year, a former employee of Open AI and Anthropic stated, “I resigned from Anthropic today. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are gambling with our lives. Don’t underestimate the power of this technology. These will soon be superhuman systems that can hack anything, revolutionize any field, and acquire real power.”
He concludes, “The people building AI believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade. This is not a marketing stunt. No other human activity poses this level of danger.”
Justifying a Global Government
Here is how one man could control all buying and selling. Could it play a role in the “image of the beast”? Why not? And as critics are warning now, AI could simultaneously create the crisis used to justify global government—and provide the technological machinery necessary to operate it.
Global crises are just that—they are global. The threat is global, therefore the solution must also be global. The end-time scenario requires a one-world leader. The technology is here. Maybe this new religion isn’t the promise of paradise after all. Some promoting AI are evangelists and some of them offer a new Promised Land it would seem. But some of the very movers and shakers of the artificial intelligence industry are sounding serious warnings. If we’re summoning up demons as one suggests, this is a type of Frankenstein in the wrong hands.
Who Needs God in an Age of Artificial Intelligence?
Young people are particularly drawn to artificial intelligence. Some will tell you that they can get an answer more quickly from Google or Alexa than they can from God. Who needs God in an age of artificial intelligence? Who needs an invisible God? And Google or Alexa may tell you what you want to hear in Technicolor, 3-D, and instantaneously!
But, as I have pondered here the last few years, I agree with those who are saying this is the second super sign of Christ’s return. The first was the dry bones coming back to life (Ezekiel 37); the second is this 21st century technology that will be the key to the Antichrist kingdom.
AI Is Fearfully Fraudulent
AI cannot speak anything into existence or give anyone eternal life. It cannot give anyone comfort, guidance, or offer anyone peace or hope. It cannot still the wind or calm the sea. It is trying to be like God but will fall far short! We are fearfully and wonderfully made. AI is fearfully fraudulent. I know President Trump has renamed this “Super Intelligence” or SI, but I believe only God posseses that, and He distributes it in small portions to mankind.
God Cannot be Superseded by Computer Chips
Events of the Tribulation are casting a shadow today. He is coming soon! God sits in the Heavens and laughs at these people (Psalm 2). He will allow them a short season of notoriety and then will crush the evil doers at His Second Coming. The biblical vision of the future does not conclude with humanity being exterminated by its machines. In fact, it culminates in Jesus ruling and reigning. God created mankind in His image, not to be superseded by computer chips.
