Barry Stagner: When Our Enemy Gets Uncomfortably Close…

Barry Stagner

Psalm 48:4-8 KJV – “For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together. They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away. Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail. Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind. As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.”

The background for our verses today is in 2 Kings 18:29-30: “Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out with a loud voice in Hebrew, hoping to demoralize those who were . . . saying, ‘Hear the word of the great king . . . of Assyria! Thus says the king: “Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he shall not be able to deliver you from his hand; nor let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, ‘The Lord will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.’”’”

The Assyrians had laid siege against the city of Jerusalem, and here we see exactly how close their proximity was: they were within speaking distance. And yet . . . Hezekiah “tore his clothes, covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord. . . . Then Hezekiah prayed before the Lord, and said: ‘O Lord God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth’” (2 Kings 19:15).

Christian, keep this in mind: You can praise God with expectancy no matter what you’re going through. No battle you encounter will ever be faced alone! This doesn’t mean there won’t be battles and that we won’t see the enemy getting uncomfortably close at times, but God will make Himself known. He made Himself known to the Egyptians through the plagues that came upon them. He made Himself known to Pharaoh, who sent the Egyptians in pursuit of Israel, which resulted in the death of the Egyptians.118

Who was it who instructed Moses regarding where to tell the Israelites to camp? It was the Lord. In fact, intricate details of where to camp were given to Moses by God in Exodus 14:1-4. Why were they to camp there? Because the Lord was going to harden Pharaoh’s heart and cause him to pursue Israel into that very site so that the Egyptians may know that He is the Lord

In other words, God told Moses, “Tell Israel to camp with their backs to the Red Sea between the Mouth of Gorges, the Well of Bitterness, and the Master of Doom, and I will stir up the Egyptian army to pursue them while they’re camped there” (See Exodus 14:10-14). An important point to note is that the fourth side of the campground was the Red Sea itself. “The people were dismayed, saying, ‘It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than we should die in the wilderness.’ [But] Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord. . . .’”

The truth is, the enemies of the church are growing in number and closing in on believers. We need to remember that we’re not the ones in danger. Our enemies are! We have nothing to fear; they have everything to fear. They are rising up against the blood-bought, Spirit-filled church of the living God! What we have heard, we will see (Psalm 48:8). No battle will ever be faced alone. God is for us and with us! Go forward this day, knowing that if God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31).

Why Are Australian Healthcare Workers Refusing To Oppose Antisemitism?

On 17 June 2026, Ahpra released a statement adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. Although it should not be a point of contention for a healthcare regulator to adopt a firm position on antisemitism, the move has sparked furious backlash from doctors, health workers and civil liberties groups who claim that adopting the antisemitism definition limits their ability to criticise Israel. Anti-Zionists often nuance their opposition to Israel by claiming it has nothing to do with antisemitism. But it does. It is simply the modern adaptation of it.

When A Literal Interpretation Of The Bible Is Abandoned, The End Result Is Replacement Theology

Unfortunately, much of Scripture, especially the Old Testament, is interpreted by replacement theologians who use what is known as the allegorical method. It assumes there is a deeper, more spiritual or mystical, understanding of Scripture beyond the mere literal understanding and that this hidden understanding is found only by those who are able to search out its secrets. This mindset is especially prevalent when it comes to prophecy. With the allegorical method, prophecy is not to be taken literally but, rather, figuratively and symbolically.

Will America Last Another 250 Years?

Looking back, there can be no denying that God has indeed shed His grace—His unmerited favor—on our land, from sea to shining sea. But does our national “soul” encourage self-control? Do our laws champion ordered liberty? Is our success tempered with nobleness? Is brotherhood the defining characteristic of any good we aspire to reflect? By all of those measures, America seems decidedly adrift. We are drifting farther and farther from Nature’s God—the Ruler of the Universe our Founders called upon and credited with for our celebrated independence.
