Early last Sunday Morning, the West awoke to the gut-wrenching news of the deadly mass shooting at Bondi Beach. The terror attack was not random; fueled by a hatred for God’s chosen people, the father and son gunmen targeted a large crowd of Australian Jews gathered to celebrate the lighting of the first candle of Hanukkah.
Most are familiar with the horrifying details, with the internet sprawling with images and eyewitness testimony of the event that transpired. In the week that has followed,ย Israeli leaders, aย former Hamas hostage,ย analysts, andย pastorsย have sought to emphasize a point of paramount importance:ย the massacre should never have happened.
Like many other Western nations, Australia was warned on numerous occasions that there would be devastating consequences for turning a blind eye to antisemitism. Experts were not silent in sounding the alarm, stressing that calls to “globalize the intifada” were not a political slogan, but a brazen call for violence.
A mere two days following Hamas’ massacre of Israelis on October 7th, 2023, pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside Australia’s landmark Sydney Opera Houseโfive miles from Bondi Beachโchantingย “Gas the Jews.”ย While the incident rightfully sparked outrage, not a single individual faced prosecution. Since that time, researchers from theย Executive Council of Australian Jewryย have recorded 3,716 anti-Jewish incidents in the nationโa number which represents a monumental rise from previous years.
Australia’s leadership not only did little to combat this alarming trend, but they also helped fuel it through their long list of anti-Israel actions and rhetoric. Adding to the failures, warnings to the government about imminent and large-scale violence against Jews were flatly disregarded.
โIt was bound to reach these tragic outcomes, just as I warned Prime Minister Albanese,โ Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in an interview on Friday. โIn my letter to Prime Minister Albanese a few months ago, I stated clearly youโre going to have this uptick, itโs going to happen, thereโs no question about it. I say now to the Australian government… wake up! You donโt need any more warnings, youโve already received enough.โ
Albanese didn’t just ignore multiple alerts from Jewish leaders; he also ignored recommendations from his government’s ownย Special Envoy to Combat Antisemitism.
“Jillian Segalโs report and subsequent recommendations were released to the Australian Federal Government in July 2025, where it simply collected dust,”ย Harbinger’s Dailyย Senior Columnistย and Australian Pastorย Dean Dwyerย highlighted.ย “Under pressure to act following the terrorist attack, the Prime Ministerโs office has now indicated it plans to work through implementation of the reportโs recommendations.”
While the global spotlight on Australia is forcing the government to take long-overdue action to better protect the Jewish Community, the problem may be much more difficult to confront than leaders realize. Dwyer underscored that his country and other Western nations remain “blind to the true source of antisemitism,” and as a result, also blind to the cure.
“Right now, many nations and groups are asking how we can best address the issue of antisemitism. Although legitimate solutions may be sought politically and culturally, on the whole, these questions evade human reason to comprehend and explain them,” he noted. “Why? Because the answers lie not in the natural or human realm, but in the spiritual realm.”
“You see, antisemitism springs from the great spiritual war that has been raging throughout most of time because the key to Godโs defeat of Satan would come through the nation of Israel,” Dwyer explained. “While ever we wholeheartedly support the efforts of clear-minded governments and organisations in combating antisemitism, while they remain blind to the true source of antisemitism (Satan), they also remain blind to the true answer to antisemitism: Jesus Christ.”
