Weโve often written about how the abortion lobby claims to care about womenโs health, yet constantly prioritizes performing as many abortions as possible over the safety of women. They fight like demons against common sense measures such as fully informing patients of alternatives or of what abortion entails and what complications might ensue. They also oppose laws requiring that abortion clinics have admission arrangements with real hospitals in case of an emergency or even that they be held to the same basic hygiene standards as any neighborhood clinic.
This wall of obstruction that labels any attempts to inform and protect patients as an attempt to take away abortion rights has been used as a shield to protect some of historyโs most dangerous quacks and monsters, and many women have paid a terrible price for it.
That brings us to the latest news about mifepristone, an abortion drug approved by the FDA under Bill Clinton. It now accounts for two-thirds of all abortions in the US, and abortion activists have ensured that itโs become as easily available as possible, including by mail without even seeing a real doctor in person. They tout it as perfectly safe (for the mother, not the baby, of course) and brag of how theyโve โout-smartedโ the pro-life movement by passing out abortion pills like candy.
Well, the Ethics & Public Policy Center (EPPC) just released a large-scale report on nearly 866,000 mifepristone abortions from 2017 to 2023. Findings: Nearly 11% of women reported serious adverse effects within 45 days, including sepsis, infection and hemorrhaging. The label claims clinical trials showed serious adverse effects in less than 0.5% of cases. The study found it was at least 22 times higher than that.
The EPPC recommends that the FDA reinstate its previous safety protocols requiring a doctorsโ supervision, that it investigate the reported harms to women, and that it reconsider its approval of the drug.
Now that we have scientific proof of how dangerous this drug can be to women, what will be the response from the pro-โwomenโs health careโ lobby? Will they agree with the EPPC and demand that the FDA step in and protect womenโs health? Or will they follow their standard operating procedure and try to prevent patients from learning anything about it?
If it helps answer that question, how many liberal news outlets have reported on this study?
