UPDATE — The Russian military continues to use the Shahed-136 in its offensive in Ukraine; Early reports suggest that no casualties occurred in the most recent attacks on Thursday; Israel is reportedly providing intel to Ukraine regarding the drones.

The Shahed-136, an Iranian-made suicide drone, continues to be used in the hands of the Russian military in its invasion of Ukraine – though Russian President Vladimir Putin maintains his narrative of his offensive being nothing more than a “military operation.” On Thursday, the Russians targeted the small town of Makariv, situated just west of Kyiv.

While initial reports indicate no casualties, significant structural damage in the area is reported. As first reported by Reuters, according to the head of the Kyiv region police, Andriy Nebtov, “There was a overnight drones bombardment by invaders on the Makariv community.”

According to at least one senior Ukrainian official, Israel is supplying Ukraine with intelligence regarding the Iranian-made Shahed-136 being utilized by Russia. Furthermore, according to an anonymous source, Ukraine is benefiting from satellite images via a private Israeli security organization. The photos reveal the movement of Russian troops.

The Russians were met by a massive truck explosion on the 12-mile-long Kerch Strait Bridge – also known as the Crimean Bridge – on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least three people. As daylight approached, the attack’s aftermath could be seen as two lanes of the bridge were submerged in water. The severity of this attack cannot be understated, as the bridge serves as one of Russia’s primary military supply routes in its offensive against Ukraine.

Security footage revealed that Russian security forces searched the semi-truck before its crossing. However, they failed to locate the explosives. This bridge is responsible for connecting Russia to the Crimean Peninsula and is something that President Vladimir Putin paraded in 2018. Following the incident, videos mocking the Russian president – who celebrated his birthday on Friday – began circulating on social media.

Ukraine did not immediately take responsibility for the attack. As of Sunday, the Russian president formally blamed Ukrainian Special Forces.

Following Saturday’s explosion, the Russian military began targeting the civilian population in Ukraine with rocket attacks, primarily hitting residential structures in the region of Zaporizhzhia. At least 13 civilians were killed, and dozens more were injured, including children. Zaporizhzhia is one of the four territories that Russia recently annexed. However, many Ukrainians remain in the region.

Late last week, Russian rockets killed nearly two dozen civilians seeking to caravan out of the region.

On Monday, Russia launched deadly attacks on regions across Ukraine, including its capital Kyiv, in a barrage of what President Zelensky stated were Iranian-made drones and missiles.

“This morning is difficult. We are dealing with terrorists. Dozens of missiles and Iranian Shaheds. They have two targets. Energy facilities throughout the country,” Zelensky said. “The second target is people. They want panic and chaos, they want to destroy our energy system.”
