Washington State Backs Off Censorship Of Christian Counseling Following Lawsuit, SCOTUS Ruling

A Washington state Christian counselorโ€”after a five-year ban on providing faith-based talk therapy centered on helping youth struggling with gender identity and same-sex attractionโ€”is free to counsel his clients in accordance with his beliefs without the threat of legal penalties.

State officials have agreed to not enforce a counseling censorship policy against Brian Tingley, a licensed family and marriage therapist, as his lawsuit against the government continues.

Tingley, who has counseled adults and minors for more than 20 years, challenged a 2018 state law that bars counselors from encouraging and helping minors reject same-sex attraction or gender confusion. That same law permits counselors to encourage gender transitions. Those who violate the law could face suspension from their practice and loss of their license, as well as fines of up to $5,000 per violation.

Tingley argued that the law violated the First Amendment because it requires counselors to promote only state-approved ideologies on homosexuality and transgenderism.

A U.S. district court ruled against Tingley, dismissing the case, and the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld that ruling. In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court denied to hear his case.

But in March, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Kaley Chiles, a Colorado Christian counselor who sued the state over a law that barred her from helping minors live in accordance with their biological sex.

Following that ruling, the federal court reopened Tingleyโ€™s case, and the state agreed to not enforce the law against Tingley as his case proceeds. In Chilesโ€™ case, the court ruled that counseling conversations are protected speech and that a Colorado law, materially identical to Washingtonโ€™s law, discriminated based on viewpoint.

Johannes Widmalm-Delphonse, senior counsel with Alliance Defending Freedom, expressed that there is an increase in mental health issues among young people, and Tingley meets that need by directly helping families who share his Christian beliefs.

โ€œThey and their parents often come to Brian Tingley because they feel most comfortable with a counselor who shares their faith, yet the state prohibited these voluntary conversations,โ€ Widmalm-Delphonse said. โ€œWeโ€™re pleased Washington has agreed that Mr. Tingley should be free to speak. It will allow young people to get the help they desperately need while his case proceeds.โ€

100,000 Sign Petition to Repeal Massachusettsโ€™ Abortion-Till-Birth, Doubling Threshold Needed To Suspend The Law Until 2028 Vote

The group filed a referendum petition Sept. 2 with Secretary of State Bill Galvin and began seeking volunteers to encourage people to sign the petition. They needed to obtain 37,289 certified signatures by Oct. 23 in order to add the repeal to the 2028 ballot, and if they could obtain 49,716, the law could be suspended pending the result of the 2028 voting. The coalition announced this week that they had submitted 99,962 signatures to city and town clerks, well above the threshold to suspend the law. โ€œThe people of Massachusetts did not ask for abortion through all nine months, and in a matter of weeks they made that clear.โ€

The Church Cannot Remain Silent On Biblical Matters Because They Have Been Declared ‘Political’

Jesus called His followers the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Neither image suggests withdrawal. Both describe engagement that makes a difference. So the issue is not whether the church should become political. It is whether Christians will remain biblical when biblical truth has political consequences. Our calling is neither to become the mouthpiece of a party nor to retreat into silence. It is to stand on Godโ€™s word, defend what is right, confront what is wrong, and speak with courage โ€” even when the culture would rather we remain silent.

Franklin Graham: Jesus Is Coming Backโ€ฆ And Itโ€™s Not Going To Be Far Down The Roadย

During a lengthy sit-down interview with Fox News Sean Hannity, evangelist Franklin Graham boldly detailed to a largely secular podcast audience the list of extraordinary evidence showcasing that our world is living in the season of Jesusโ€™ return. โ€œJesus is coming back,โ€ Graham declared. โ€œHe is going to come back, and He is going to establish His throne here. There's gonna be a new Jerusalem. He is coming down, and He is going to reign. That is going to take place. When that's gonna take place, I don't knowโ€ฆ but it's not gonna be that far down the road. Jesus told us to look for signs. In Matthew chapter 24, He gives us great examples of what's coming and what we ought to be looking for. If you look today, [you can see] the signs.โ€
