The Trump administration is preparing a $2.8 billion munitions sale to Israel that would include 40,000 2,000-pound bombs, according to reports published Tuesday.
A U.S. official said the proposed package contains 20,000 MK-84 bombs and 20,000 BLU-117 bombs. The administration has informally presented the plan to the congressional committees that review major weapons sales, but the agreement has not yet been formally announced.
The proposal signals continued American support for Israelโs right to defend its people as the Jewish state faces persistent threats from Iran and its terrorist proxies. The powerful munitions can also be fitted with guidance systems for precision strikes against military targets and fortified positions.
Neither the State Department nor the Israeli Embassy in Washington immediately commented on the reported sale.
