Grecian military stands in the way of Turkish cargo ship making its way to Libya on Wednesday; Greece would later fall back after Turkey issued a warning.

Wednesday – As a Turkish cargo ship and other frigates sought to make their way to Libya, they were confronted by the Greek Navy. Greece would later fall back after receiving warnings from the Turkish military.

In the midst of the confrontation, Greece deployed a helicopter. At least one report states that as the helicopter approached the Turkish ships, one of the frigates announced, “the Turkish ship is under the protection of the Turkish democracy.”

Another variable that made it difficult for Greece to stand in the way much longer, as reported by CNN Greece, is that “European force vessels cannot intervene on ships accompanied by third-country warships…”

According to one report, the Greek Navy has been aware of the Turkish ships ever since they departed from Istanbul on Sunday.

Turkey has been increasing its military presence in Libya as the second civil war continues. Turkey is backing the United Nations-recognized Government of National Accord (GNA).
