Hamas recently proposed amendments to the US-backed ceasefire plan, including a demand that the United Nations resume control of aid distribution to Gaza. This move challenges the newly established Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which was created by the United States and Israel to ensure aid bypasses Hamas, going directly to the Palestinian people.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation’s Interim Executive Director, John Acree, praised the organization’s progress, stating that the rapid deployment of aid “proves our model is functional and effective in delivering life-saving assistance to the people of Gaza under emergency conditions.”
According to the Jerusalem Post, He also announced plans to “expand operations by opening four additional distribution sites, including one in northern Gaza,” to fulfill the growing demand.
Criticism of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation intensified following reports widely circulated—and inflamed by Hamas propaganda—that the IDF had attacked a food distribution point near Rafah, allegedly causing civilian casualties. The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation firmly dismissed these claims, releasing security camera footage from the site that showed calm civilian activity with no reported incidents.
Here’s my take: Hamas is struggling for control.
The new Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is aid distributed by America with Israeli security oversight. Hamas wants a permanent ceasefire and the United Nations to distribute food. As US Special Envoy to the Middle Steve Witkoff stated, that is “totally unacceptable.” It will give Hamas ample time to reload, rearm, and steal food meant for the Palestinian people.
Let’s keep pressure on Hamas for the sake of the Israelis and Gazans.
