Vice President JD Vance said he plans to pursue action against alleged fraud in Ohio following a bombshell report by Luke Rosiak at The Daily Wire claiming widespread abuse of Medicaid within parts of the Somali community in Columbus. The report alleges that many individuals have created home health care companies that employ relatives or associates, who then bill Medicaid for services provided to their own family members.
Per Rosiak’s reporting, “Northeast Columbus has seen its economy replaced by businesses that bill Medicaid.”
“These shocking allegations, if true, show why the Fraud Task Force’s work is so important,” said Vance. “I’m directing the task force to look into it and take immediate action to prosecute any fraudsters involved and stop all further payments as appropriate.”
Vance’s remarks came in response to a post from Rosiak, who wrote, “94 Medicaid ‘home health’ companies purport to occupy this office building, taking more than $66 million of your money. They provide free butlers to immigrants.”
Vivek Ramaswamy also reacted to the bombshell report, saying, “I refuse to tolerate this kind of waste, fraud, & abuse in Medicaid. We’ll prosecute aggressively & put the money back in the pockets of law-abiding Ohioans. The dollar amount will be far greater than most people expect.”
Rosiak’s report reads: “The business model is simple: a 40-year-old Somali immigrant gets paid for spending time with, and maybe cooking for, his own 65-year-old mother. The middleman is one of thousands of ‘home health’ firms that have the ‘NPI’ number necessary to bill Medicaid.”
“The 40-year-old becomes an ’employee’ of that company, but has no clients other than his mother. There is no way to verify whether he actually even provided the ‘services’—unless his own mother is willing to testify against him.”
