Jack Hibbs: We Have Seen His Star

Heavenโ€™s influence on our lives is never greater than when our sights are fixed upon it. The man or woman whose eyes are turned upward will be marked by a life lived differently. We know this because of the accounts of those who determined to fix their gaze far above the earth.

Moses is a perfect example. In Pharaohโ€™s house, he had every benefit laid at his feet. Yet, Moses was not captivated by the security of the Egyptian court because โ€œhe was looking ahead to his rewardโ€ (Hebrews 11:26). For Moses, looking upward equated to living beyond the fleeting rewards of playing it safe, resulting in the deliverance of millions of his people from bondage.

Missionary to China, Hudson Taylor was another who lived with heaven in constant view. In writing about winning souls to Christ, Taylor said, โ€œChina is not to be won for Christ by quiet, ease-loving men and women.โ€ Through his courageous, some might say outrageous, trust in God, he inspired thousands to forsake the comforts of the West to bring the gospel to Chinaโ€™s vast, unknown interior.

The Magi of the Christmas account trained their eye on the heavenly star so they might find the Christ Child and worship Him. Christian, what are your sights set on? What is the driving force in your worship of your King? I pray that you turn your eyes upward to that which will one day be yoursโ€”heaven.

As Leftist Programs Struggle To Survive, ‘Progressive’ States Are Paying The Price For Denying The Truth

As more people who seek the government affirmation of their personal choices relocate to states that promise those benefits, those regions will face growing financial pressure. At the same time, higher taxes and expanding government obligations make them less attractive to families, businesses, and workers who value opportunity, responsibility, and the freedom to keep more of what they earn. By contrast, states that build public policy on truth, personal responsibility, and enduring moral principles are better positioned to flourish. Yet the longevity of that outcome is not guaranteed. With a nation and Congress that are so closely divided, a five-seat Republican majority in the House and a six-seat majority in the Senate, the outcome of every election will determine who controls Congress and the federal purse โ€” and whether fiscally responsible states will once again be asked to subsidize policies they have rejected.

Will America Last Another 250 Years?

Looking back, there can be no denying that God has indeed shed His graceโ€”His unmerited favorโ€”on our land, from sea to shining sea. But does our national โ€œsoulโ€ encourage self-control? Do our laws champion ordered liberty? Is our success tempered with nobleness? Is brotherhood the defining characteristic of any good we aspire to reflect? By all of those measures, America seems decidedly adrift. We are drifting farther and farther from Natureโ€™s Godโ€”the Ruler of the Universe our Founders called upon and credited with for our celebrated independence.
