Burning a book is not an offence in Britain. Or is it? It depends which book. If you burn a copy of the Qur’an in public, then the police will arrest you, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) will charge you, and a judge will convict you. The police, the CPS, and the judiciary seem intent on enforcing Islamic blasphemy.

We all want to believe that MPs and other decision makers are highly civilised people who would never restrict healthcare funding in such a way that pushed people towards assisted suicide. This is naïve optimism. Once the door to this alternative treatment is opened, it is always there.

Truth protects us all. And that’s why this judgment is not enough. It is one thing for a person to deliberately present themselves as if they are a member of the opposite sex. It is another, much more serious, step for our institutions to endorse and promote that lie through official documents, the court system, hospitals and schools.

Helping people to kill themselves deprives them of an incredible promise. There is nothing compassionate about the false promise of assisted suicide, because it takes people away from the only true source of healing and hope – and away from Jesus, the only one who can provide true, eternal relief from suffering.

The freedom to criticise other religions is essential for the work of evangelism. While there is strong protection in law, the freedom to criticise Islam in particular is being eroded. Police have a track record of arresting people they view as insulting Islam. In seeking to adopt an official government definition of Islamophobia, the government is privileging Islam over all other religions and worldviews and thus discriminating in favour of Islam.

“My aim always when preaching is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and that all of us can only be saved if we follow His teaching. It was intimidating to be attacked and surrounded by such an angry mob, but I was determined to stand my ground and not back down over my beliefs."

I would certainly not describe all Muslims as ‘sex groomers’, but this example appears to want to characterise any suggestion that Muslims have been responsible for grooming gang offences as ‘Islamophobic’. There is no doubt that fear of being called Islamophobic has motivated police and other authorities to avoid tackling these grooming gangs.

For a UK Prime Minister’s official spokesman to publicly announce the government wants to hold talks with a proscribed terrorist is tantamount to saying to every jihadist group in the world who persecutes Christians: “if you are successful, topple an existing government and seize power – we will, in effect, recognise you as the government of that country”

If assisted suicide is legalised, then carers or medics could suggest assisted suicide to patients. This turns carers or medics into agents of death rather than trusted providers of care and medicine. Can you imagine your doctor suggesting that they could help you kill yourself? This does happen in countries where assisted suicide is legal.
