The Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group received an invitation to visit the Russian capital of Moscow, Palestinian media reported late on Sunday.
According to a statement released by the group, its chief Ziyad al-Nakhalah, based in the Syrian capital of Damascus, accepted the invitation and will take on all the necessary arrangements.
The group has been based in the Syrian capital since 1990s, with the latest Gaza escalation prompting Israel to launch strikes at the group’s HQ in the city.
A Hamas delegation, led by its leader Islamil Haniyeh, is already in Moscow, and Haniyeh is reportedly set to meet the Russian leadership on Monday.
The discussion, according to Palestinian reports, will be focused on Russia’s role in “supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and the risks of the Trump deal.”
According to some of the previous reports, Haniyeh has drawn Egypt’s ire after visiting the funeral of key Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani despite being told by Cairo not to do so.
In return, Egypt reportedly barred Haniyeh from returning to the Gaza Strip from his world tour, which earlier saw him meet Turkey’s Erdogan.
