U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) is calling on Congress to ban the use of the abortion drug mifepristone, which is responsible for the nation’s rapid escalation of killing of the unborn and the hospitalization of 11% of expectant mothers who consume the mail-order drug.
“The abortion drug is not safe,” Hawley declared during the Family Research Council (FRC) Action’s Pray Vote Stand Summit last week. “It’s not safe for the babies it kills almost every single time, and it’s not safe for the mother, either, because in more than one in 10 cases, the mother who takes that pill is sent to an emergency room with a life-threatening condition. And the pharmaceutical companies who make that drug, they lie about it because they make money on abortions. The more abortions there are, the more money they make.”
Hawley continued: “We have more abortions in this country now than we did when Roe v. Wade was the law of the land because of the abortion drug. It is turning every mailbox in America into a Planned Parenthood clinic. We cannot allow this to go on. We need to ban it.”
“Congress needs to ban the abortion drug in the United States of America,” Hawley said. “I have introduced legislation to do that, and I am challenging my Republican colleagues and everybody who is running for office, if you are pro-life, you cannot be for the abortion drug.”
Earlier this year Hawley introduced the Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act, which now has seven Senate co-sponsors.
During a panel discussion at the summit with the Missouri senator and his wife, Erin, FRC President Tony Perkins said that a Biden administration policy, which has continued under the Trump administration, “has allowed the abortion industry to adopt an Amazon business model, and mailboxes across America have been turned into the instruments of abortion.”
“As a result, we have more abortions today than we did before the overturn of Roe v. Wade [in the 2022 Dobbs v. Jackson U.S. Supreme Court decision], about a 21% increase in the number of abortions and about two-thirds of those are done with the abortion pill,” Perkins continued.
“Even in pro-life states—many of you come from pro-life states, I’m from the pro-life state of Louisiana, it doesn’t matter—we now have more abortions in Louisiana than before Dobbs because of this abortion pill and it’s got to be stopped,” Perkins added.
Earlier this month, Hawley and Perkins voiced their support of a Declaration for Life authored by a group of Missouri pastors and Christians leaders. The Declaration reads in part:
“But the reversal of Roe did not end abortion in America. Far from it. More abortions are performed in this country today than when Roe was still the law of the land—over one million abortions in 2025 alone. The main reason is a drug called mifepristone. Seventy percent of abortions in America are now carried out with this drug. Thanks to recent changes in government regulations, mifepristone can now be mailed into every state and city in America, regardless of local rules. The abortion drug is nearly always fatal to the unborn child and frequently injurious to the mother. Recent studies indicate the drug puts more than one in ten women who take it at risk of serious, life-threatening complications, including hemorrhaging, infections, and sepsis.”
Meanwhile, in a recent letter to the current nominee for Food and Drug Administration commissioner, Heidi Overton, Perkins and other pro-life leaders across the country demanded answers about an ongoing FDA study of mifepristone that has been underway for nearly two years.
The letter states: “Those who advocate for women and the unborn have patiently awaited the end of the Biden-era abortion by mail scheme, which was designed to undermine the Dobbs decision. It is time for the Trump FDA to take action. …
“The permissiveness of the current policy is increasing the risk of abuse, especially by men who seek to force women to have abortions without their consent or knowledge. By allowing mifepristone to be obtained without an in-person medical visit, the current FDA policy makes it more difficult to screen vulnerable women outside the presence of potential abusers. Third, mail-order abortion is undermining state laws enacted to protect unborn life and women.”
Overton—who co-authored a brief in 2023 by America First Policy Institute warning of the dangers of chemical abortion—was questioned Thursday by the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. If the committee votes to proceed with Overton’s nomination, the full Senate will need to vote on her confirmation.

Editor’s Note: ‘Murder By Mail’
According to a 2025 study by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), a whopping 84% of Mail-order abortion pills are being shipped into pro-life states. These numbers showcase what experts are calling a “strategic plan” to circumvent laws protecting the unborn.
Franklin Graham, commenting on the FDA’s decision to make the abortion pill available through the postal system, referred to the actions as “Murder by mail.”
“Abortion supporters try to make it sound more acceptable and less barbaric by saying that it ‘terminates a pregnancy,’” Graham described. “But medication abortions, as they are called, are just another way to deliberately end the life of an unborn child—and that should be called what it is—murder.”
“Pray that the minds and hearts of people across our nation would be awakened to the great sin and heartbreak of abortion,” he implored.
