Forget “It was the best of times.” The previous two Tuesdays in Israel, then in the United States, belong squarely on the “worst of times” side of the ledger. Conservatism in both nations was shellacked in the elections, and the ramifications will be immense.
Israel’s Election
The citizens of Israel went to the polls on October 27. The results were inconclusive and confusing. They were inconclusive in that no party or bloc was able to garner the requisite 61 seats in the Knesset to take control of the government. Netanyahu’s Likud party was the highest vote-getter but still fell well short of what was necessary. What was confusing was the extremely high number of Israeli Arabs who voted. While the normal percentage of Arabs voting was around 40%, this election saw a turnout of 80-90%, giving the Arab bloc 19 seats. However, it wasn’t long before an explanation was given.
The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security agency, laid out a scenario accompanied by an insurmountable amount of evidence. Foreign governments with hostile interests funneled millions of dollars into the country to motivate Arabs to vote. By “motivate,” I don’t mean a “Get Out the Vote” advertising campaign. I mean a “Here’s a 50-shekel gas card for you if you go in and cast a ballot” buying of votes. Tens of thousands of voters, at minimum, were affected by this voter grift.
What’s most interesting is seeing the reactions to this blatant foreign (i.e., primarily Qatari) vote tampering. The Israeli left are so desperate to see Netanyahu out of office that they are ignoring these criminal acts and are criticizing the investigation instead. As I look at the situation, I see four ways this election can pan out, with only one—Netanyahu staying in power—being any way good.
U.S. Election
The good news with Tuesday’s vote in the United States is that they are mid-term elections and not presidential. And with that, we finish the “good news” portion of this section. It was a bloodbath for conservatism. There are a lot of reasons as to why this loss was so devastating, but I think the magnitude can be summed up in one statement. The Republican Party lost Texas. It’s as disheartening as it is unbelievable.
It’s true that the midterm elections of second-term presidents typically are routs for the other side. But this is different. In the past, there was a fundamental base on which both the Republican and Democrat parties were constructed. Despite disagreeing on many economic and moral issues, both sides felt they were doing what was needed to make America better. And before I get emails and messages from anyone, I’m speaking in generalities.
Now, however, the divide has changed. The majority of Americans still want to make the country better, but the left has voted in governors, congressmen, and even a senator who want to reinvent America into something very different from what it currently is. The green politicians, i.e., the Muslims, want to make America Islam. The red politicians, i.e., socialists and communists, want to make America into a socialist nation. Thus, the divide is now between those seeking to make America better and those who want to transform America into something very different.
The results of the U.S. elections were no surprise to me. In June 2025, Israeli planes were in the air on their way to deal Iran a powerful blow when Trump forced Israel to pull them back. The internal pressure Trump faced to keep the ceasefire intact was so intense that he caved. When Iran saw that first crack in the president, they knew they had won. That is why the war is still going today. That is why gas prices are still so high. And both of those issues contributed greatly to the devastating Republican collapse.
Already, the Left is promising subpoenas and impeachments. If they go through with them, that may be the only hope the Right has for a bounce back in 2028. I would be shocked if the Left didn’t overplay their hand and alienate many of the moderates. They can’t help themselves; it’s what they do. But even with a shift back toward the center, it wouldn’t change the significant steps the green and red radicals have made into the American political system. And with the power the left will have over the next two years, the changes they may be able to pull off to the way the U.S. government runs may be too much to reverse even if the citizenry comes to its senses.
God is good. Let His peace overflow into your life. Anyone who has studied the Bible knew that this was coming. I think we all just kind of hoped it would happen after we were gone. But this we know: we have a Father who loves us and who will save us from His coming wrath. So, while it may get weird, uncomfortable, and even a little dangerous in the times ahead, it will never be more than we can handle. And just before it’s about to reach that “Day of the Lord” level, there’s a time already set for when we will meet our Messiah in the clouds. “Therefore comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:18).
