Former President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he is filing a class-action lawsuit against big tech companies Twitter, Facebook, and Google, for their illegal censorship of Conservatives and de-platforming of a sitting US President.
“I stand before you this morning to announce a very important… development for our freedom and freedom of speech,” Trump announced at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey. “In conjunction with the America First Policy Institute, I’m filing as the lead class action representative a major class-action lawsuit against the big tech giants including Facebook, Google, and Twitter, as well as their CEOs.”
YouTube, whose parent company is one of the three which the lawsuit is filed against, promptly cut off the speech, removing it from their platform.
Although it was initially believed that today’s speech would be announcing a new social media platform, it was later released that it would be regarding a massive legal effort by Trump to hold big tech companies accountable for violating the law.
“We’re going to hold Big Tech very accountable. This is the first of numerous other lawsuits,” Trump stated.
“We’re demanding an end to the shadow-banning, a stop to the silencing, and a stop to the blacklisting, banishing, and canceling that you know so well,” the former President said in his speech. “We will prove that this censorship is unlawful, it’s unconstitutional, and it’s completely un-American.”
Trump presented a myriad of examples showing how the tech giants have abused their powers by dubbing speech that runs contrary to their political narrative “misinformation.”
“There is no better evidence that big tech is out of control than the fact that they banned the sitting President of the United States earlier this year. If they can do it to me,” he explained, “they can do it to anyone.”
“Liberty is under increased threats and attacks by a lot of different sides. We are the majority side,” he asserted. “Social media has given extraordinary power to a group of Big Tech giants that are working with government, the mainstream media, and a large segment of a political party to suppress the views of the American people, and they’ve been very successful at that.”
Trump also cited the suppression of information about COVID-19, stating that censorship “was especially clear during the pandemic.”
He then explained that Big Tech companies have been “co-opted, coerced, and weaponized” by members of the government, which have made them become “enforcers of illegal, unconstitutional censorship.”
“While the social media companies are officially private entities, in recent years they have ceased to be private with the enactment and their historical use of Section 230, which profoundly protects them from liability,” Trump said. “It is in effect a massive government subsidy; these companies have been co-opted, coerced, and weaponized by government actors to become the enforcers of illegal, unconstitutional censorship.”
According to Trump, the lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Florida shortly.
