The Wind In The Trees: Trials Are Not For My Destruction But For My Growth

Deuteronomy 20:19 KJV – “When thou shalt besiege a city a long time, in making war against it to take it, thou shalt not destroy the trees thereof by forcing an axe against them: for thou mayest eat of them, and thou shalt not cut them down (for the tree of the field is man’s life) to employ them in the siege:”

I am a lover of Godโ€™s creation, and eating of a tree means many things to me. Peaches freshly pulled from a branch taste terrific, but feasting my eyes on a healthy tree, whose foliage shades and refreshes, is even more pleasurable. Its effortless growth reminds me that I often worry and labor when I should be looking and growing upward. The stability of such a tree speaks of Godโ€™s faithfulness to bring the needed water and light so that the tree becomes a blessing and delight.

At our home, we have many trees, and a few of them are pretty tall. Each afternoon, the winds begin to pick up until there is a constant breeze upon their branches and trunks. But look closer. There is more going on than meets the eye. Botanists tell us that the more wind a tree experiences, the deeper the roots will push into the earth beneath, sometimes securing themselves to a large rock well below the surface if the winds are strong and frequent.

I cannot see the wind that passes through the treetops, only its effect as it dances over and around the leaves. Learn this lesson and be encouraged. The windy trials that push against me are not for my destruction but for growth, making even the sound of the wind comforting to my ears. When I remember that all is in the hands of Him who created it, I understand the effort God puts forth to grow you and me.

The Dual Citizenship: What It Means To Be An Ambassador For Christ In Culture Where Biblical Truth Is Under Attack

This spiritual war between truth and lies is being waged in the hearts and minds of people, particularly in the church. Too many Christians are being shaped by the culture rather than being shaped by the Savior and the Scripture. They are compromised when it comes to the core teaching of the Christian faith. Too many churches are throwing in the towel when it comes to the culture wars and social issues. Too many pastors are compromising their calling in the pulpit, watering down their messages from the infallible Word of God for fear of offending. There are two problems with that. Number one, people are offended too easily these days; and number two, the Bible is offensive because it speaks absolute truth for all generations.

America Must Not Abandon the Iranian People: It’s Time To Finish The Job Against The Irredeemable Regime In Tehran

The fact is, we have nearly five decades of experience to confirm that the Islamic Republic is an entirely irredeemable governing entity. Terrorism and vicious hatred of America, Israel, and the West are part of its DNA, and its fundamentalist vision is incompatible with peaceful coexistence with the civilized world. America โ€“ and the world โ€“ will never be safe if this regime survives in any form.

Jan Markell: You Canโ€™t Have A Genuine Revival With False Doctrine Raging

I hear a dozen evangelists stating that we are on the verge of a great revival. One self-proclaimed prophet says that a billion souls will come to faith in the coming weeks and months. If my Rapture is imminent, how can there be an imminent revival? Which is it? The Bible does talk about a coming revival. The question concerns its timing. Is it in the coming days, or is it after the Rapture when the โ€œleft behindโ€ world realizes they should have listened to believers like you and me, get a second chance, and multitudes come to faith?
