When nations rage and kingdoms fight, God’s Word reminds us, “He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire” (Psalm 46:9). Therefore, we should “be still and know that He is God” (Psalm 46:10).

The Hebrew word translated “be still” is one word in Hebrew, a verb that means “cease striving.” Nations and mercenaries may strive with one another in military conflicts, but God’s people need not strive. We can rest in knowing that God is working out His prophetic plan precisely as He told us He would. He promised us in His Word, “I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10)!

One day, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace will return, take His rightful throne, and put an end to all wars (Isaiah 9:6-7; Matthew 25:31). He will usher in an era of unprecedented peace, righteousness, and justice. When Christ comes back, man’s striving will cease once and for all.

Until then, let us “set our minds on things above, not on things on earth” (Colossians 3:2). For, “our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” (Philippians 3:20).
