Samaritan’s Purse has assessment teams in Florida and Louisiana prepped to respond to Hurricane Isaias, a Category 3 storm brewing in the Gulf.
Isaias, now carrying maximum sustained winds of over 110 mph, is forecast to batter the Gulf Coast with devastating winds, dangerous storm surge, and torrential downpour late Friday night, Oct. 9, into Saturday morning. The storm is expected to make landfall around Pensacola, along Florida’s western panhandle. Storm surge could reach nine feet and rain totals could surpass 15 inches. Parts of Florida, Alabama, and Georgia are all under a state of emergency. State officials and local authorities warn of life-threatening conditions. Such weather can easily rip roofs off homes, snap large trees in half, and flood entire neighborhoods.
As the storm approaches, Samaritan’s Purse is ready to respond in Jesus’ Name to help hurting homeowners recover in the aftermath of Isaias. We have assessment teams stationed in Jacksonville, Florida, and Baton Rouge, Louisiana—east and west of the storm’s projected path. When the storm clears, these teams will enter hurricane-hit communities within hours to assess damage and see how best to respond, while also sharing the hope of the Gospel with families reeling from the storm.
Volunteer opportunities will be announced soon afterward. Check back here for updates on volunteer times and locations.
“Pray for all those in the path of Hurricane Isaias today,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham on Facebook.
Major hurricanes can be unpredictable. Please pray for the many thousands of people in Hurricane Isaias’ path tonight—that the Lord would protect them from the storm. As Samaritan’s Purse prepares to respond, please also pray for wisdom and safety as our assessment teams enter the affected area.
