PM: Calls For A Ceasefire Are A Call For Israel To Surrender To Hamas—That Will Not Happen

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a foreign press conference on Monday, stated that a ceasefire in the war would be the equivalent of surrendering to Hamas.

“Israel will not agree to a cessation of hostilities after the horrific attacks of October 7,” he told reporters. “Calls for a ceasefire are a call for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terror, to surrender to barbarism. That will not happen.”

Former US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman highlighted on Sunday that “If you are advocating for a cease-fire, you are on the side of those who want to exterminate the Jews.”

Friedman, alongside 50 Jewish and Christian leaders, exhorted the Biden administration in a joint statement earlier this month not to pressure Israel into a ceasefire.

“Israel must do all that is necessary to eliminate Hamas. It is not sufficient for Israel to degrade or even defeat this brutal terrorist regime, which oppresses its own people. Israel must completely destroy every Hamas terrorist so that this evil is erased from human history,” the statement underscored. “If America pressures Israel into a ceasefire, Israel’s enemies will be emboldened and Israel imperiled long into the future.”

“As we read in this week’s Torah portion, ‘And God said to Noah, the end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth has become full of Hamas (violence), and behold I am about to destroy them from the earth,'” they quoted. “We trust Israel to do everything possible to minimize civilian casualties. At the same time, Israel must do everything necessary to completely uproot and destroy Hamas. Israel cannot allow Hamas to survive and commit these atrocities again.”

“If Hamas is not eliminated, Israel will be,” the statement warned. “As Israel’s greatest ally, America must demonstrate UNLIMITED and UNQUALIFIED support for Israel in its righteous battle against Hamas.”

Netanyahu, at the press conference on Monday, asserted that Israel, and every other nation, must not surrender to tyranny and terror.

“Israel did not start this war. Israel did not want this war. But Israel will win this war,” he continued. “This is a turning point — for leaders and for nations. It is time for all of us to decide if we are willing to fight for a future of hope and promise or surrender to tyranny and terror.”

“Ladies and gentlemen, the Bible says that there is a time for peace and a time for war. This is a time for war,” Netanyahu urged, quoting from the book of Ecclesiastes.

Amir Tsarfati, Founder and President of Behold Israel, similarly referenced this passage of Scripture when discussing recent events in Israel.

“I have been immersed in this story for two weeks now. There are things that I could never have imagined one human being doing to another. But now I know that they are possible because I’ve seen photographic evidence of them being perpetrated on my own people,” Tsarfati described. “I do know that God is in charge. My faith has not wavered at all. Because I’ve studied the Scriptures, I know how this story ends. But as King Solomon told us, there is ‘a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance’ (Ecclesiastes 3:4). This is not the time for laughing and dancing. It is a time for weeping and mourning. It is also ‘a time of war’ (Ecclesiastes 3:8).”

“Please join me in praying that God leads His armies to fight this battle, so that the enemy will soon be defeated and we in Israel can once again return to ‘a time of peace,'” he implored.

A Milestone Marked With An Important Acknowledgment: The Need For God Is Woven Into The Fabric Of America

“In this moment,” she said, “I don’t want it to be lost on us what is going on here: that we have a president, and a staff surrounding him, that saw the importance and the need to call [on] God. Because for 250 years this nation has returned again and again to the God who created this beautiful country that we get to call home. We do this not because we’re perfect people; we’re not. But woven into the fabric of America is a deep and persistent belief that we cannot persevere on our own—that we need God.”

Johnson’s diagnosis is a sad reminder that we live in a fallen world. No amount of biohacking and optimizing health will save you from death: “It is appointed for men to die once” (Hebrews 9:27). Because all have sinned, God’s judgment of death is coming to all of us sooner or later. And we live in a fallen world—our world groans and our bodies groan. We can make choices that will likely keep us healthy longer or improve our quality of life, but we can’t ultimately protect ourselves from all suffering. This world is fallen; it’s not getting better—it’s been getting worse for 6,000 years!

Called Out From The Culture: The Hope For America Is The Church

I believe that the hope for America is the church—God working through his church. Christians need to live up to their name. As Christ followers, we need to be Christlike. And if the church would be what it was meant to be, then it would change our nation. But let’s localize it. If your church would be what it ought to be, it could change your city. It could change your county, and it could change your state. Let’s localize it even more. If you would be what you ought to be as a follower of Jesus Christ and as a part of the church, then what a difference it could make in your church.
