Paul warned Timothy to “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction. For the time will come when people will not want to hear sound doctrine.” Continuing, “Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear” (2 Timothy 4:2).
The truth of God’s word may be out of season right now. When Congress opens with an incantation to a pagan deity Brahma, and the open invitation to “a god who is known by many names…” it’s clearly a different time. But it’s the best time for truth to shine.
Almighty God does not hear anything spoken to any other perceived deity.
“There is ONE God, and One Mediator between God and man – Jesus Christ” (1 Timothy 2:5).
Truth, and Absolutes, and Reality may be challenged, but they are their own apologetic because truth always proves true. Lies may disrupt and even seem to prosper for a short time, but they always crumble because they’re built on man’s ideas, and man is temporary. His ideas come and go.
The truth is never more clear – or essential – than when it stands in direct opposition to everything else being said and taught and promoted. The light shines brightest in the darkest moments. Thanks to President Biden for inviting the darkness and teeing that one up for us.
The truth may be out of season, but it’s still the truth. Denying that God created only two genders doesn’t negate the facts. Passing laws that make it convenient to murder babies does not make it right, only legal. There is one God. There is His truth. Everything else is only human imagination. Humans come and go. Truth never does.
Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away” (Mark 13:31). The truth is still true because Christ alone IS the Truth.
If you are not a Christian and have your hope in the government, or the stock market, or your career or family, your world is spinning when those things are shaken. You can have a foundation that does not move. Trust Christ with your life and discover a firm foundation, one that withstands the storms of life or transitions in Washington D.C. or Iranian missiles.
If you are a Christian, this is a time when Christianity is out of season. It’s not the first time. If you follow CNN or any of the NBC networks, you’ve already heard them condemning Christians for what happened in the Capital. The time is coming when it won’t be out of season; it will be open season on Christians. Be faithful to the truth. Do not back away because truth is unpopular; the truth often is. You may be hated for speaking the truth; that’s to be expected. Truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth.
Jesus prophesied that in the last days, Christians would be targeted for speaking the truth, “On My account you will be accused before kings and governors for My name sake. And the Gospel must first be proclaimed to all the nations” (Mark 13:9,10).
Understand the message is eternal, as is the truth behind it. In tumultuous times, people need the truth and the light more than ever. At the same time, when the truth is most needed, enemies of the truth resist it more ardently.
Truth may be out of season, but it’s exactly the right time to speak it.
