Jack Hibbs: Hope For The Downcast

Depression is a cruel and unfair player. It singles us out at inconvenient times and is unconcerned about our commitments or schedules. Nor is it a respecter of persons. Many of God’s great warriors fought attacks of depression.

The prophet Elijah despaired to the point of praying “Lord, take my life!” The apostle Paul was often overwhelmed, making it necessary for the Lord to speak to him in a night vision, “Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; for I am with you…” And one of my heroes of the faith, Charles Spurgeon, suffered severe bouts of depression. He explained them as dark and sinister emotions that left him feeling alienated from God.

Does it surprise you that believers face these kinds of battles? It shouldn’t. We all struggle from time to time with feelings of hopelessness. But notice how the Psalmist begins to overcome the darkness. He preaches the truth of God to himself, knowing he will find strength and courage there.

The next time you find depression creeping in, lay hold of verses like 2 Samuel 22:2-3: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; the God of my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge; my Savior.”

Immerse yourself in scriptures that speak about salvation and the magnitude of God’s love for you. Remind yourself of all that is now yours and say, “My hope is in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior!”

Why Are Australian Healthcare Workers Refusing To Oppose Antisemitism?

On 17 June 2026, Ahpra released a statement adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism. Although it should not be a point of contention for a healthcare regulator to adopt a firm position on antisemitism, the move has sparked furious backlash from doctors, health workers and civil liberties groups who claim that adopting the antisemitism definition limits their ability to criticise Israel. Anti-Zionists often nuance their opposition to Israel by claiming it has nothing to do with antisemitism. But it does. It is simply the modern adaptation of it.

When A Literal Interpretation Of The Bible Is Abandoned, The End Result Is Replacement Theology

Unfortunately, much of Scripture, especially the Old Testament, is interpreted by replacement theologians who use what is known as the allegorical method. It assumes there is a deeper, more spiritual or mystical, understanding of Scripture beyond the mere literal understanding and that this hidden understanding is found only by those who are able to search out its secrets. This mindset is especially prevalent when it comes to prophecy. With the allegorical method, prophecy is not to be taken literally but, rather, figuratively and symbolically.

Will America Last Another 250 Years?

Looking back, there can be no denying that God has indeed shed His grace—His unmerited favor—on our land, from sea to shining sea. But does our national “soul” encourage self-control? Do our laws champion ordered liberty? Is our success tempered with nobleness? Is brotherhood the defining characteristic of any good we aspire to reflect? By all of those measures, America seems decidedly adrift. We are drifting farther and farther from Nature’s God—the Ruler of the Universe our Founders called upon and credited with for our celebrated independence.
