Reporters from several media outlets sat down with Franklin Graham in Brussels Friday morning ahead of Saturday’s Festival of Hope in Belgium’s capital.
It’s been 50 years since Billy Graham was in the same city for a youth evangelism conference called EuroFest, and Franklin Graham shared his father’s concern for the nation’s youth. Young adults make up the largest age group in Brussels.
“So many young people in Europe are searching for purpose in life,” he shared with reporters. “They try sexual experiences and drugs and alcohol looking for God and they’re not finding God.
“I want young people to know that God made them, He’s real, He loves them, He cares for them, and He’s got a plan for how we can have a relationship with Him.”
Over 600 churches across Belgium have come together to pray and prepare for the Festival, bringing unprecedented unity to this area often divided by languages and denominational differences.
The event will be interpreted into seven languages—including French, Flemish, Slovak, and Portuguese—inviting people in their own tongue to come to their Heavenly Father.
“It’s important for the churches to hear and to see people standing to their feet, coming forward, confessing their sins, repenting of their sins, and inviting Christ into their hearts to know Him,” Franklin Graham said. “This will strengthen the church.”
In the city known as “the heart of Europe,” he said he hopes the ripples of repentance will reach across the rest of the continent.
“We have to turn from our sins. We cannot come to God and continue to live in our sins,” he added. “It’s a privilege to be able to come and to share this message.”
