Coincidence?: US And Russia Hold Nationwide Emergency Alert Drills On The Same Day

Mark Hitchcock

On Wednesday, October 4th, at 2:20 (EST), a national emergency alert test was blaring on cell phones, wireless devices, radios, and TVs. It was conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

Let me first say that the alert was a standard test. A law was passed in 2015 that this must happen in the United States once every three years. This was the third such nationwide test.

The law requires this national emergency alert, but if you’re out on the internet, this triggered all kinds of conspiracy theories. While I’m not going to go into all of these, we need to be warned not to buy into everything that we read on the internet.

Many people even became worried that this blaring alert was going to activate nanoparticles in the bodies of those who received the COVID-19 vaccine and trigger a kind of zombie apocalypse. And as far as I can tell, that has not happened! We need to be warned and highlight the danger of people coming out with unsubstantiated theories to get clicks.

That being said, a couple of things are significant about this.

It’s kind of creepy to think that everybody in the country is receiving the same alert simultaneously. It cements this idea of growing control over our lives in this nation when information can be disseminated in such a short period of time.

Additionally, as Newsweek reported, it’s interesting that Russia and the United States held their nationwide emergency alert drill on the same day.

The Associated Press wrote:

Sirens wailed across Russia and TV stations interrupted regular programming to broadcast warnings Wednesday as part of sweeping drills intended to test the readiness of the country’s emergency responders amid the fighting in Ukraine.

I can’t see it as a coincidence that both of these two superpowers, the two nations with the most nuclear weapons, are having these drills on the same day.

While Russia had this emergency alert on Wednesday, the day before, they held another kind of emergency drill throughout the country. This drill simulated a nuclear attack in which about 70% of the housing in Russia would be destroyed. They had people going to certain places and different shelters. They took this simulation very seriously.

The AP article goes on to say this:

The exercise that started Tuesday follows Ukrainian drone attacks on Moscow and other cities. As the readiness drill went on, the Russian Defense Ministry saidย air defenses shot downย 31 Ukrainian drones over border regions early Wednesday.

As part of the drills, TV stations broadcast a notice saying: “Attention everyone! The readiness of the public warning system is being tested! Please remain calm!”

Russian media said the exercise’s scenario mentions the increasing danger of a conflict between nuclear powers and simulates a response to a situation in which 70% of housing and all vital infrastructure have been destroyed, wide areas contaminated by radioactive fallout and a general mobilization announced.

It seems Russia is having these drills out of fear of a thermonuclear exchange.

Meanwhile, the New York Times wrote that “Russia May Be Planning to Test a Nuclear-Powered Missile,” adding that “Visual evidence from a remote base in the Arctic shows launch preparations mirroring those that preceded earlier tests.”

The New York Times includes several different images that show launchpad activity:

  • img 8526
  • img 8523
  • img 8524
  • img 8525

The article continues:

Satellite imagery and aviation data suggest that Russia may be preparing to test an experimental nuclear-powered cruise missile โ€” or may have recently tested one โ€” with a theoretical range of thousands of miles.

With Russia trying to operate these missile tests, they may be afraid of some kind of retaliation. Russia right now is on high alert.

It came out just this week that Putin was urged to test an atomic bomb. A lot of you may know that Russia has been very active in the Arctic region, taking and securing a lot more territory.

Russia is reportedly holding nationwide drills today to practise evacuating civilians in the event of a nuclear conflict.

Leaked documents published by Baza, a Russian media outlet with links to Vladimir Putin’s security services, indicated the extensive nature of Tuesday’s test. Rescue workers will be tasked with removing “large numbers of people from hypothetical ‘radiation zones'”,ย The Telegraphย reported.

While Russia holds civil defence drills annually, this will be the first time they have happened on such a large scale, saidย Newsweek. The test will assume the nation is “at least partially under martial law”…

The drills come as the head of a Kremlin-backed nuclear research centre called on Russia to “test an atomic bomb to intimidate the West”,ย The Timesย reported.

How do we respond to these things? Well, let me give a couple of thoughts. As I said earlier, we’re seeing technology that is able to warn every person in the nation simultaneously of an event.

There seems to be a movement afoot to have a global testing system where everybody on the earth can at once receive an announcement or warning. We are seeing increasing globalism and a greater control that governments and those in power can exert over people’s lives.

This also, as I said earlier, highlights the need for us to have discernment. All kinds of reckless speculation and rampant fears are running wild on the internet. I understand that today, there’s a great deal of fear, distrust of government, and suspicion, but we have to pray, seek the Lord, and have discernment.

Prior to the emergency alert test, they were assuring people not to be alarmed. That’s pretty good advice for us as believers as well. In these times, don’t be alarmed; be aware and alert.

What did Jesus say in John 14:1, “Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Interestingly, the publication of the Russian announcements also instructed people to “remain calm. I think that’s God’s message to us, too, in these times we live. Find that calm and peace, knowing that God is sovereign and has a plan. One of these days, the rapture is going to come, and that’s our hope in this troubled world.

Shifting Geopolitical Landscape: Examining The ‘Abraham Accords’ Through A Biblical Lens

Because they are frequently mentioned in the news, itโ€™s likely that many people are aware of the Abraham Accords and generally understand their purpose. However, if you were to ask the average person to elaborate on what it means to โ€œnormalize relationsโ€ with Israel, or what realistically takes place when a country becomes a signatory to the Accords, itโ€™s doubtful that most would be able to confidently answer the question. So, what exactly do these agreements do, and why should we, as Christians, pay attention to them?

Vigilant To Protect: A Pastor’s Responsibility To Call Out False Teachers

I recently watched a minister online. He gave a scathing critique of those who dare call out purveyors of false doctrine. He said we should love our fellow Christians. Paradoxically, he criticized those who criticize others. He seemed intent on inoculating his followers โ€” making them immune to charges of false doctrine against his friends and himself.ย In one sense, the attack seemed pious. Donโ€™t criticize. Be loving. Be sweet. But Jesus ran the money changers out of the temple.
