The good news is the high Court has ruled. So then, is abortion banned and restricted, or is it still protected and celebrated? Yes. It all depends on where you live. It’s up to your state legislatures and governors, the way it was fifty years ago well before abortion was so popular.
I hope you noticed the deceptive talking points and headlines last Friday when liberal echo chambers such as USA Today, Reuters, NBC, and many others blasted the deceptive headline, “U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, ends constitutional right to abortion.”
Regardless of what a handful of Justices decided last week or in 1973, nowhere in the U.S. Constitution has a “right to abortion” ever existed. It was created by the Court and has now been overruled. So, what happens now?
The Constitution is to Americans what God’s Word is to Christians: our final authority. If the Bible is God’s inspired Word and is true, then it is the standard of morality. We’ve addressed this before but it is necessary to briefly revisit a few Scriptures including Psalm 139:13-16 which says God knit you together in your mother’s womb and you were wonderfully created.
Writing to the Galatians, the Apostle Paul states:
Galatians 1:15-16 KJV – “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen…”
Jeremiah 1:5 KJV – “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee…”
Luke 1:41 KJV – “And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:”
That one just hit some of you who may be thinking, ‘Wait, that’s a Christmas verse!’ It also demonstrates God holds no distinction between a baby in a mother’s womb and an infant. Life is still life!
So how did we depart from truth, reason, compassion, and common sense? Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, in his majority opinion last week, pointed out the fact that historically, American law once followed common law. He stated, “abortion had long been a crime in every single State,” and in fact, it was criminal in at least some stages of pregnancy.
Quoting directly from the SCOTUS decision on Roe, Justice Alito states:
“By the time of the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment, three-quarters of the States had made abortion a crime at any stage of pregnancy, and the remaining States would soon follow.”
The majority opinion would also state that Roe Vs. Wade was “on a collision course with the Constitution from the day it was decided,” and the 1973 Court “failed to ground its decision in text, history, or precedent.”
Justice Alito continues:
“We can only do our job, which is to interpret the law, apply longstanding principles of stare decisis, and decide this case accordingly. We therefore hold that the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. Roe and Casey must be overruled, and the authority to regulate abortion must be returned to the people and their elected representatives.”
And therein lies the conundrum. As much as it was good news the Court decided to overrule Roe, now this moral issue of playing God with human life is left up to imperfect, sinful people, many of whom have wicked hearts and are driven by self-interests.
This is where the church must step in and stop being silent. Pastors must address from the Bible the issue of life in the womb and we must raise awareness of the fact abortion is still funded by our tax dollars today. This overlooked evil must be stopped, but Americans have been too busy.
Abortion, historically, used to be unthinkable in the United States. Let that sink in.
We call ourselves advanced and civilized, but the U.S. has been one of only six nations that allows abortion-on-demand throughout all nine months of pregnancy. We’re right in line with China and North Korea. Let that sink in.
America is also one of only eight countries in the world that allows abortion past twenty weeks, and has tragically ranked in the bottom four percent (4%) of the most disgusting, appalling abortion policies in the world. By the way, seventy-five percent of nations protect life in the womb after 12 weeks’ gestation.
But the blood lust is too strong for Democrat socialists and they will now beat their war drums even louder as they demand child sacrifice in every state. Yes, this is demonic.
California Democrat, Maxine Waters responded to the Roe V. Wade ruling by saying:
“You ain’t seen nothing yet. Women are going to control their bodies no matter how they try to stop us. The hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them,”
What happened to the oath she swore to take office as a member of the U.S. Congress? The Marxist mainstream media and cable news calls the Roe decision an assault on women’s rights and a threat to their health. No mention of the health of preborn babies.
Nancy Pelosi said, with a straight face, overturning Roe is “one of the darkest days our country has ever seen.”
Democrat socialist, Elizabeth Warren, claims the SCOTUS torched their legitimacy and she demands more leftist justices be added to the high Court. Pack the court. Stat!
Planned Parenthood cried,
“The Supreme Court just overturned Roe v. Wade, ending our constitutional right to abortion…
Many headlines suggest we’re a bunch of fundamentalist, right-wing “anti-abortion” extremists – and yet, who are the ones lobbying for the murder of more children?
Democrats demand the right to control their own bodies, but they already have it. Don’t have pre-marital, risky sexual intercourse. They just don’t want any restraints and don’t want to exercise self-control.
The left says “my body, my choice” and they don’t even see the hypocrisy of forcing all people to get a shot in their arms, for example. But the point is they are ignoring he very science they claim to trust. A growing human fetus has its own unique DNA and is totally distinct from the mother.
How is the progressive and woke corporate world reacting?
Three dozen (so far) major companies are offering abortion benefits, to give their employees money to travel across state lines and get abortions if their state passes abortion restrictions. I guess that’s much cheaper than maternity leave. Companies include Starbuck’s Walt Disney, Amazon, Netflix, Google, Apple, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bank of America, and Microsoft.
We’re just seeing the tip of the iceberg in this titanic-sized culture war.
President of Ethics and Public Policy Center, Ryan T. Anderson responded to the news last week as many others have, and stated:
“Today’s ruling is the culmination of decades of public advocacy, of unheralded acts of love and mercy, and of unrelenting prayers for justice for the unborn and their mothers. It will be remembered and celebrated as one of the most important days in the history of this country—a day when we began to right the wrongs inflicted by the Court in Roe v. Wade a half-century ago.
“Today is also the beginning of a new chapter in our work of building a more robust culture of life that protects babies, supports mothers, and strengthens families for the long haul.”
It took much effort to get here and we have much to do as the fight is far from over.
Justice Alito was joined on the ruling by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, and Amy Coney Barrett. It’s interesting the latter three were appointed by President Trump and the SCOTUS ruling likely would not have happened without them.
Bottom line: in this wicked worldview, they reject a Creator, God, and therefore they do not have any higher moral authority than themselves. This is creating a god in your own image which is a form of idolatry warned about in Scripture.
As Christians who love our neighbors or as compassionate and responsible citizens, we need to help the pro-life centers and clinics who are truly caring for pregnant women.
Whether we’re talking about abortion, pride, socialism, theft, murder, sexual perversion, adultery, or drag queens, let’s face the fact that our culture has normalized sin and calls evil good and good evil (Isaiah 5:20). We are ripe for God’s judgment.
Our response to the SCOTUS decision as well as people abandoning truth and rejecting God throughout our country must be prayer and self-control. We can still be a voice for the helpless, support in crisis pregnancies, and we can still stand up for truth regardless of its popularity.
And of course, we must vote in elections, that is, assuming we value our freedoms and want to save more lives.
