Israel Derangement Syndrome (IDS) is the illness, antisemitism is the symptom, and all seems to indicate that most of the world suffers from that syndrome. The cure is clearly found in the Bible for those who care to look for it. Before we do look for a cure, let’s look at how bad the illness has become over the last few years.
It could be argued that the virus of the new antisemitism has been incubating for several decades, releasing just a few isolated cases of IDS, but the last couple of years have seen unprecedented levels of antisemitism with absolutely no sign of stopping or slowing down. It actually started in 2020. In the past 40 years prior, from 1979 to 2020, antisemitism was present, at the rate of 500 to 1,000 US incidents per year. If you ask me, that is already a lot of anti-Jewish hate crimes to deal with, but the curve was somewhat flat and steady at that rate.
Then, from 2020 to 2024 (2025 is not released yet), the numbers went through the roof and the virus seems to be creating a “pandemic.” The ADL explains, “In 2024, ADL tabulated 9,354 antisemitic incidents across the United States. This represents a 5% increase from the 8,873 incidents recorded in 2023, a 344% increase over the past five years and a 893% increase over the past 10 years. It is the highest number on record since ADL began tracking antisemitic incidents 46 years ago.”
This pandemic, that I call “Israel Derangement Syndrome” (IDS) is infecting all walks of life, all countries, all religions, in short, just about the whole planet! Just the past few months have seen a lot in terms of IDS:
In Italy, a poster at a bus stop depicted a Nazi uniform with an arm band displaying the Jewish star of David, and the date 1948-2025. In Spain, A stop light flashed “STOP Israel” on red and “FREE Gaza” on green.
In a highly hypocritical move by the French Parliament, France voted to elevate Captain Alfred Dreyfus to Brigadier General, 130 years after the conspiratorial accusation that sent him to prison on Devil’s Island. It is a slap in the face of Dreyfus and his family, but people find it easier to express love and appreciation to “dead Jews!”
In Germany, a woman holding a sign in public saying “haven’t we learned anything from the Holocaust” was fined 1,500โฌ. Kneecap (rap music) from Ireland and Bob Vylain in the UK spewed antisemitic venom from the stage and got the audience to chant along “Free, Free…Free Palestine!” and “Death to the IDF!” A kosher restaurant in Athens, Greece, was defaced with the graffiti “No Zionist is safe here!” A Belgian court recently stopped the transfer of military supplies to Israel, accusing them of Genocide in Gaza. A Swedish company started a line of drinks called “Palestine Colas” aimed at raising awareness about Palestine and raising funds for Palestine with each can sold.
These are just a few of the examples of how the world is suffering from IDS. The world is pointing the finger at Israel and the Jews at an intensity and frequency even greater than the 1930s and 1940s. This is due to the birth of the modern Jewish state in 1948 and the advent of the Internet, making the weed of Jew hatred a choking weed on a global scale.
We must keep in mind that the Israel Derangement Syndrome is based on an irrational hatred of the Jews and Israel. It was recently said that “If your first inclination is to accuse Jews when you have no evidence, you are the definition of an antisemite.” This is the exact modus operandi of the antisemites, to accuse Jews of the ills of the world with no evidence, or to accuse all Jews for the ills of one or a few who happen to be fallen human beings first and Jewish second.
IDS can be fought with the truth. Anyone reading God’s Word using a hermeneutics that is literal, grammatical, historical, contextual, and consistent can cure IDS. The answer is in the Word of God, and it revolves around Israel. If anyone doesn’t like the fact that God has built His divine program around Israel and the Jewish people, they can take it up with God, but leave the Jews alone! Who would have thought that the cure for IDS was simply to read the Bible properly and apply it humbly, gratefully, and consistently?
IDS actually makes sense from a biblical standpoint, based on Zechariah 12:3, “But it will be in that day, that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who heave it up will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it.” As it would appear, eventually, the whole world is going to turn against the Jews.
According to the ADL survey, things are not getting better: “Nearly half of all people worldwide hold elevated levels of antisemitic attitudes, according to the latest Global 100 survey conducted by ADL (the Anti-Defamation League) and coordinated with Ipsos and other research partners. The survey found that 46 percent of the worldโs adult population โ an estimated 2.2 billion people โ harbor deeply entrenched antisemitic attitudes, more than double compared to ADLโs first worldwide survey a decade ago and the highest level on record since ADL started tracking these trends globally.“
So, we are at the halfway point regarding the fulfillment of Zechariah 12:3, but “the whole world” doesn’t necessarily mean every single individual on the planet. Let us go against the flow and be renegades against Jew haters and pro-Hamas proponents. Join me in believing and applying biblical truth about Israel (Genesis 12:3; Jeremiah 31:35-37) and remain immune to the Israel Derangement Syndrome.
