Hebrews 6:19 KJV – “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;”
Life is turbulent. Sometimes it feels like we’re on a ship trying to find a safe harbor to drop anchor. But what do we do when stormy seas make crashing on rocks or running aground on a shoal a possibility? If we lived in ancient times, we would rely on a boat called the forerunner.
The captain called for the forerunner when a ship couldn’t enter a harbor. His sailors would place the ship’s anchor in this smaller boat and lower it into the water. The crew would row the anchor through the waves into the harbor and throw it overboard. Despite the turbulence above, the ship’s anchor would rest on the ocean floor, held fast within the harbor. What a great lesson for every wind-tossed and battered believer!

Dear saint, Jesus is our Forerunner who has gone before you, by way of Calvary’s cross. He who has passed through the depths of hell is He who is now seated at the right hand of God in heaven. Your salvation is secure, anchored to the unchanging promises of God for this reason: “For I am the LORD, I do not change” (Malachi 3:6). The promise of eternal life is meant to anchor your whole life. If you hold fast to it, you will be unmoved by the wind and the waves.
But what if life gets harder? It may, but rest fully in Jesus Christ, your living hope, and He will hold you safe and secure until the storm has passed. Your anchor’s already been set.
